Oh my! Can it be? GITM doing DIY...
« on: June 27, 2010, 06:38:59 pm »
After an inspiring visit to Phi Audio I decided I wanna try my hand at a set of Voigt Pipes. Jacques from Phi Audio was kind enough to assist with the design after I decided what drivers I wanted to use.

Driver compliment:
100mm Visaton full-range drivers
10mm Visaton Polycarb tweeters (I decided to add the tweeters to add sparkle to the speakers repertoire)

16mm MDF was chosen

Panels was cut at Lowveld Builders Market

I assembled the cabinets at a good friend of mine, who has a workshop equipped with every thinkable tool for the job at hand.

Here's some pics of the build up to now. I am still awaiting the arrival of the drivers.

Sizing up side panels

Fitting baffle

1.8 m tall

Sanding edges

Both cabs assembled

Filling up all the brad holes

Cutting holes for the drivers

Done for now... next up fitting drivers, testing, painting and the enjoying...!

That's really cool.

Looks like you got a lot more done this weekend then I did  :D

Man I wish I had a proper workbench like that. My back is busted tonight.

1.8 m. tall, you or the speakers ?
Looking good, keep posting pics.

No offence meant, fact remains that I have not seen pelmets like those for many many years.

Goody - the drivers arrived! Now to get them fitted... will have to rework the tweeter aperture as I made it to small.

Thank you!

Automotive lacquer. Planning to do the "pipes" cherry red and the plinths jet black. Also adding a black felt vignette around the drivers.

Tweeters are not connected at the moment as I need to make a 10mH inductor for the series x-over.
