Cat5 speaker cable
« on: June 21, 2010, 07:51:14 pm »
I have a 6M pair, each with 4 runs, so good for biwiring (or a very little LAN!).. About to throw them out as no longer needed, seems like a waste of copper! If anyone wants them (collect in Cape Town), let  me know, you can have them before I throw them away..

Nothing fancy, no terminators, they were used for speakr building.. but if you want to test, saves a helluvalot of effort getting them the same length, stripping back etc..etc..

Hi Sean,

I also have cat-5 speaker cables that I built according to TNT design. Do you still have yours?

It only dawned on me now that I can change them to become a bi-wire model. Can you please tell me how to split the 2 channels?
I mean you've got the twisted pairs etc, (and it was very difficult to get all lengths the same and terminated!). Does it matter which strands of sets of strands you choose to go together?

Regards
Leon

Hi,

I had 3pairs of CAT5 per side. I just joined all the strands of one cable together for highs and then joined the other 2 pairs for Bass. So 2 effective pairs. I didn't try split strands in one cable. I figured chances were good I would short something. It was all very unscientific. Ended up extremely bulky & cumbersome!

I didn't experiment in any way. By the time I had them all the same length, stripped the ends and made them workable I had had enough. I haven't still got them, I threw them away in the end, it was just too much cable for me!
