Bass reflex port tubes
« on: May 24, 2010, 10:05:13 pm »
I know I have read this somewhere here before but I cannot find the thread...

Anyone have an idea where I can get hold of ports for a BR build...

Yebo has but they are all either to wide or too short... Ideally what I need is 45mm internal diameter that is 200mm long... a little longer would also be nice for tuning...

I was going to do that but I have modified the design moving the port from the back to the front... So a nice formed black tube would look best...

If all else fails then PVC tube it is...

Does anyone know how well PVC takes to paint?

Hi JQ,

I have painted PVC with normal rattle-can paint before.  As long as you do a numerous light coats it works well enough.  Buy plascon or similar brands - not the really cheap type.  On the cheap brands the nozzle is poor which creates splutters, etc.

The bond isn't strong enough to withstand the fingernail test, but the insides of a port rarely get into contact with anything.  If you are worried, then get some plastic primer and apply that first.

Regards,
Ian.

You also get paints specificaly for plastic if you dont want to have to get a primer and spray paint. I used the Rustolium range at builders warehouse. Worked pretty well for me

very nice paint is to buy the stone finish spray. coat everything with that and then spray black, got some other advantages aswell. also works very well on the faceplate
