DIY music server with high-end potential

I came across this new nifty little device -

Some background -

To operate asynchronously is a BIG deal in computer audio, most devices like this works synchronously and as such there will always be timing (read jitter) issue's between PC's and DAC's.

Products that operate asynchronously is available (i.e. AYRE)  at a cost of +- $2000.00!

Most forums recommend a small laptop/netbook running Windows 7 with this device into your DAC of choice ...

Looks excellent might have a look at it since the current dac I use can only do async with foobar and I use itunes. The sound difference between async and sync is very noticeble.
BTW I am using this little dac:
