pvr second room "eye" not working
« on: November 23, 2009, 07:40:05 am »
huy guys maybe somebody can help me with a real problem.  my fiance has put in a pvr, we have had it for over a year now, only now that i have moved in we have put my tv in the bedroom - however i cannot get the 2nd "eye" to work for the 2nd room remote  - the eye we bought from game.  The eye connects into the tv via the aerial input of the tv and the cable (from the pvr) goes into 2nd eye connection.  now i've done everything the manual says - tuning it into a specific channel, getting the test screen picture etc etc - but it still wont work - is there something wrong the with eye we bought - even though the red light is on, on the "eye"

we want to take the 2nd eye to a friends house to test on theirs but dont have the time - what else can we try or can be wrong

thanks!

Firstly, in "TV setup" you need to enable the TV2 output. Next, this sends a DC power signal to the second TV. If you use a splitter that has capacitive coupling, it will block the DC signal and the "eye" will not be able to operate. if the power signal gets through the red LED should illuminate. One way to check is to connect the eye right at the decoder, then see if it works from there (that it responds to remote commands). Remember that the rotary switch must show any of 2A to 2D selections.

Good luck.

It sounds like the "eye" is getting power, so that's prolly not the reason.

I have two "eyes", one in our bedroom and one in my son's. I had intermiitent problems with it, in that it wouldn't work. The problem was that 1) the cabling was of poor quality, I replaced this with proper cabling. and 2) The cable going from the splitter to my son's bedroom was too long. So I madet he cable feeding to my son's room as short as possible as well.

The issue has to do with backscatter of the data on the line. If you don't use proper satellite cable you end up with an impedance mismatch and nothing works. I've fixed it now and has been working for a good 6 months.

thanks for your replies - my response on that :

the light on the eye is coming on - so yes its getting power.
yes i have activated the tv2link in the menu.
i hadn't thought of trying the eye directly on the decoder - i will try that and see if it works...

thanks

hi
when my extraview was activated i developed problems with my tv eye as well....
i decided to replace the system with a remote system from space tv...
there is a receiver at the decoder with a little eye and and the transmitter is actually one of the batteries in the remote.
it works incredibly well and you can use it in the entire house without any installation

it was a much cheaper alternative to the installer guys suggestion of changing cables, splitters, amps etc.
some inherit money
others inherit insanity
such is life...........
