DVD - U2 - Vertigo, Live in Chicago
« on: October 28, 2006, 11:19:17 am »
I picked this up for R70.00, yes R70.00 :119:  admitedly from Cash Crusaders but I do not tell a word of a lie it is literally brand new. I think someone decided "I'm gonna buy this DVD and then go straight to CC to sell it" :044:

U2 is not my first choice DVD or CD purchase but I do very much enjoy them and this DVD is a treat. 3 Audio options, LPCM stereo, DD 5.1 and DTS 5.1 so no compaints there. As for the quality, it is a SA pressing but I think the source was preserved well enough and thus the Audio and Video presentation IMO is very good

As for the actual concert, it spans nearly 2hrs20min and covers 23 songs, both old favs and the new ones. The show itself is spectacular, grand scale and yet has an intimate feel to it too with the looping stage reaching out into the audience.

If you're a fan, its a must obviously, and even if you just enjoy U2 occasionaly like me its also worth a thought.

Highly recommended

Good price, good DVD!

Speaking of which, VH1 (on DSTV) occasionally plays the track "Where the streets have no name" which, I believe, was recorded on a hotel roof in Chicago. Eventually, the recording/filming was broken up by the police, who wanted to charge the band with as being a  "public disturbance". Details of this recording were "leaked" to a Chicago radio station, so of course the crowds were there.

I have searched every available U2 DVD to find the particular version of this track, to no avail.

Anyone know if this specific version does appear on any DVD?

Why would an SA Pressing be different to an international pressing?

A pressing, as I understand it is a disk pressed off of an original galss master, so they should all be the same, or at least shouldn't vary from country to country unless the disk was remastered.

SA's have big long bits of boerewors, we should be able to 'press' with the best of them :D

They should be the same but very often unfortunately they are not

Will have to keep an eye out for this one.
Not seen it on the shelves but have to be the worst person in a music / dvd shop. I just hate browsing.

My fav music DVD is the US elevation tour.... and Where the streets have no name at very high volume just gives me goose bumps every time.

That it will, indeed! One of the best DVDs I have purchased, and I probably have about four or five U2 DVDs. All of them great! ;D ;D

And then we can get into the Pink Floyd ones as well... Breathtakingly Fantabulous!!

TranSonicX, Pulse is excellent. You'll love it if you're a Floyd fan.

TranSonicX, Pulse is excellent. You'll love it if you're a Floyd fan.

Watched the first disc when I got home yesterday.
Wow I forgot what a great band Floyd is. David Gilmour is an ace on that axe.
The concert is not high energy but the music and vibe is awesome and draws you in.
I have never seen such a huge percussion / drum setup and in learning to fly (track 2), the whole house shakes (I love my 12inch sub). The stage setup is amazing and I can just imagine what it must have been like to be there.

I would highly recommend this DVD to anybody and considering it is over a decade since it was performed, you will  not be disappointed.
