Maybe it is because there is so little smoke in these tubes that people are wary of their function...after all all electronics run on smoke :D

A friend of mine who recently started an interest in electronics, has come to a profound conclusion:

All electronic components have a lot of smoke stored up inside. When they get too hot, the smoke comes out .....

Solid-state is FLAT and SMALL (sounding) - Why, other than for difficult driver loads, would ANYONE (especially if you've heard valves) want solid-state amplification?

Generalising a bit aren't you Hein ;)

...Just trying to get a response... ;) And encourage a bit of enthusiasm for that "even-order harmonic exacerbation" that make toobs SO... "Musical"?

Ja, I've heard some K@K valve components too...
But hey, you can't "roll" solid-state... well, not without SERIOUS effort... ;D

I was well aware of that. ;)

as for the nuforce p8, that just goes to show that the technology is not really important to me, but the sound. I heard it in my system, it sounded convincing, and that's it. now I'll tinker a bit with the tube pre-amp, just to see how much I can get out of it.
but that the p8 sounds better is imo not proof of better technology , it is just better designed. they're also not in the same price league, with the decware (kit) going for $ 299.- and the p8 listed for k 18 rand.
that all said, I'm really enjoying the p8 in my system.

Ja, like those with a single Quad amp that serves no real purpose ;D

'Tis is so true... <sniff>....

Where's that mate of yers who has t'other one? My Quad is feeling lonely. I think it's against the law to only have one Quad, gotta have two!

If I don't get a mate for it soon, I am going to start building me new solid state amplifier - I've got all the parts now.

So there!
