Here's one, but it's not the one I was thinking of http://www.thevintageknob.org/.

Ah... you posted before I could...

I've always loved those Technics amps with the large VU meters. Could never afford one at the time, and now cannot find one anywhere :(

But I still live in hope...  :o

That was quite a nice trip back in time...  :)

I've still got a kenwood KA2000 (link below) in decent working order.  Had it sitting in the garage for a long time - needs a bit of cosmetic work but fixing that over the next while.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Here is a pic of my KENWOOD KA-8300 Amplifier I used to own. Very nice amplifier with loads of power and finesse. Dual mono design.

I only replaced the blown pilot bulbs with LEDs. Got it for R400 at a swop shop!

This is my dads HiFi from the 80's. He is still using his Technics Direct drive Turn Table and DBX casette deck which are not in the picture.

Nice Kenwood & Technics pics. My favourite has got to be those silver Pioneers with the blue fluorescent displays.

The venerable SA-508? Gosh yes. I must have rebuilt 20 of those power stages (not party proof) but I never once had one with a dead display. Weird shaped output transistors. Brutal savage that I am, used to solder a preset pot under the pcb to tweak the bias. :D Dunno about the "If it's there you'll hear it" part, but man what a product. Love'em!

I googled a bit and it seems one got them with a red display too. Wheee!

Pics stolen from hifigoteborg.se/store (blue) and audioklassiks.de (red)

Oh that is the great amp! I used mine to drive my set of QUAD 57 electrostats without a days problems! The amp is still in daily operation at a friends place who bought it from me.

Excellent sleuthing there, ludo. This is the first I hear of this. Can't really tell from the pic if it looked as good as the blue. They have a matching tape deck that looks even better than the amp.

.....and the old stuff takes longer to be landfill... I will not name and shame but some of the new "decent" stuff is a joke.

Did some messing about with CD players this evening. re affirmed my stance. Mid 90s  "high end" stuff vs a very well regarded current one box player in the Euro 2K league. Verdict, nice, but no need to change except for serviceability...
