Gert's junkyard sale
« on: November 24, 2008, 10:27:41 am »
I'm going to be getting rid of some bits & pieces of stuff that I've accumulated over the years that I realistically won't be doing anything with.

First up, I've got some STA310 Dolby/DTS decoder chips here. For the diehard DIY'er, here's the holy grail if ever you wanted to design your own AVR. These chips are new and very hard to come by. I've got all the datasheets, eval schematics and command sets for these, you won't find them on the web. I want about R80 a piece and I have two.

http://www.st.com/stonline/stappl/productcatalog/app?path=/pages/stcom/PcStComGenerateTableViewHTML.onClickOfRPN&primaryheader=Application%20Specific%20for%20Audio&secondaryheader=Audio%20Decoders&subclassheader=AC3%20Decoders&subclassid=443&rpncode=75586&producttype=product&open=product&applilevel=

Then, I've got a 45-0 45-0 VAC, 1kVA toroid lying here. This was made by Toroidal Technologies about two years ago. Give me R400 ish and I'll be happy ;)

I've got some pretty hefty heatsinks, ideal for that Class A behemoth that you've always wanted to build. They're about 180mm*180mm square in 600mm extrusions. They do have some holes drilled in them for transistors, but only on the flat face. The other three faces have fins, I can take some pic's for those interested. I've got two lengths, I'd like around R300 ish a piece.

Lastly, I've got some seas Excel 25C003's (I'll confirm exact part number) that I've happened across, but prolly won't use anytime soon

Not too sure what to ask for these, I think I paid about R1k5 for the pair so would be happy to get that. I didn't get them new from the previous owner. All he did was tested them in an enclosure, so they have less than an hour's use. I've not tested them myself, but will do so to verify they working (no reason to believe otherwise though).

Oooh, before I forget, I've got some MJL4281, MJL4302 pairs that I want to part with as well. I'll let them go for R50 a pair and I've got about 20 pairs here.

Let me know if anybody is interested?

Cheers

Gert

If you're moving to Cape Town I'd say, hang on to the transformer 'till you get here. Then we can talk.

I have Leach Boards to go along with those MJL's if anyone is interested in those.

I'll bite, lemme just sort out how much i can take, I'm guessing both heatsinks and a few more pairs of the MJLs, somewhere somehow i will build a class A just to hear it...

Will see what i can do about 1kVA
OK! I've had it! I don't give anymore Kharma. Kharma should work in mysterious ways...

Willi,

MJL's are power transistors. They were specificaly designed for audio applications.

The Leach Boards, are PC boards that I had made here. They were designed by a Danish chappy based on a power amplifier circuit by Prof W. Marshall Leach of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

You can see a pic or 2 here. http://byrd.fotopic.net/c718148.html
I will stick up some pics of a complete amp - just been a bit lazy

Andre, we can have a chat about the price if you want to take all of it at the same time, no prob ;)

Hey my arm is already at 180 deg...

Dunno if that will be feasible, I need 6 more pairs at the mostest, maybe add a spare pair or two for smoke-letting / welding tests. And the heatsinks I'm keen on, cause it's a pain to get nice ones...

Want to do 6 channel Class A in the distant future,to the tune of this one: http://sound.westhost.com/project10.htm - just swapping out the transistors, which seems easy, and parallelling them... btw the drivers will they also change to the MJE15035's or do they need to remain as per the design? Ignore this if you don't have time, will look closer at some point... This way I can lower heat and distortion over the higher bandwidth... and make sure the stuff handles lower impedances as well... and use stuff I already got... ;)

I first need to see if I can pull some more out of the LM 3886's heard only two channels of mine on a pair of speakers, and it sounded fairly bad... suspect PSU is the issue, still cool on active though, so I'm convinced it could be improved upon.

Most transistors gone and heatsinks gone. (Always a pleasure chip ;))

Still have the transformer and the seas tweets. Any takers?

Those tweets are very enticing, but (un)fortunately I'm broke. I recommend you just stick those away somewhere out of the way. Like your sock drawer.
