Hardwood advice
« on: June 02, 2006, 08:13:38 am »
I have a couple of concerns about hardwood laminated/attached to MDF. What is the risk of delamination/warping when the MDF below is strongly braced? I don't expect problems but perhaps someone can advise? Do I need to put a full sheet of MDF under the hardwood or can I brace the hardwood plank with MDF directly?

I have laminate hardwood (cherry) and mdf a number of times before and did not experience any trouble, even years after. Just make sure you clam it properly and give enough time for the wood to dry proprly - but I'm sure you will.

I would of course think twice before doing it with wood like rose/oak/maple etc. Imo too hard - but maybe Ian can advice.

Yep, It is unfortunately along those lines (and even harder) but I am having it planed professionally to exactly my required height. Sucker for punishment were ian's words iirc.
