Speaker Placement
« on: July 08, 2005, 11:38:49 am »
First off, I would like to commend the creators for the initiative in creating this forum.  To be honest, I am just a little tired of reading about shops and equipment we simply don't have (or is HARD to get) in SA on the US and UK forums.

Back to the issue at hand:

My listening room is a strange shape, and has quite a bit of echo even with the furniture in place.  My system always sounded relatively good, but I thought I could improve by moving the speakers around, doing some sound-dampening, etc.  What I came accross is the "Wilson Audio Speaker Placement" paper, also known as WASP http://www.moonaudio.com/x1setup.htm#wasp

The effect of moving my speakers in the way this document describes was quite a pleasant one (although tiring and time consuming).  I highly recommed reading this paper to anybody who wants to improve his / her system performance.

I read the print-out of that paper you gave me, very interesting! Can't wait to get some speakers to play with :)

Oh, and you're not the only one frustrated with the foreign forums - that's exactly why I started this!

I have sent the link to all of my friends who are interested in Hi-Fi (and some who are not  - yet), so hopefully we can have a good number of people to start chatting soon.

BTW, The site looks good - do you have a template, or did you design from scratch?

It's a ready-made piece of software - phpBB. So no, other than the little logo in the top left corner, all of this is other people's work. No point reinventing the wheel :)

There are many features that I haven't turned on yet - photo galleries, games, etc. For now we've just got the Knowledge Base and FAQ, let's see how it goes.

Btw here's a tip on using the site - to see just the posts since your last visit, bookmark this URL:

http://www.avforums.za.net/search.php?search_id=newposts

This way you can see all the recent activity on one page.

I'm going to listen to the Acoustic Energy and Monitor Audio's this weekend :)

I need to make a purchase soon because listening to the pair of Logitech speakers I have in the study is plain annoying :(
