Hang B&W 302 speakers on the wall...
« on: September 05, 2008, 02:55:21 pm »
I want to hang my B&W 302 speakers on the wall as main front speakers for my surround sound....can i drill a small hole and screw in a wall clip of some sort to fit over the screw drilled in the wall?  it seems possible to me

thanks

Don't really know. Perhaps you want to open the back and see how thick the back panel is before you do any drilling.
If not perhaps something that sticks onto the back of the speaker?
Else a shelf on the wall that the speaker sits on perhaps.

Look at getting yourself a decent wall bracket, rather. Safer for both the health of the speaker as well as your wall. I had some really nice ones made up a year or three ago by Sound Structures. Things feel bomb-proof.
Don't judge me for being quiet - no one plans a murder aloud.

I would say it should be safe enough. Alot cheaper than buying brackets I am sure. It is not as though the speakers you are talking about are some super price high end things.

If the panel is not thick enough to hold screws with any significant fastness (Which I highly doubt), then drill 2 holes in the panel and feed a stip of wire through the holes to create a loop.

Caution, whatever you read above, may, wonder of wonders, contain some level of jocularity.

Just be carefull, the 302 looks like this in the inside...however the plastic braces at the back allow for a 12mm self-tapping to suffice.  I would use a standard wall brackets for speakers as they will allow you to tilt it and it is not expensive at the general stores. no more than R200.00 I would think

I posted to this from my mobile but obviously it went west... I am with Mervin re the 302. Beware, quite a hard plastic and I have seen 'em crack if dropped of a stand for eg so I am not sure about even self tappers.
The wire loop may be best.
You can get the rear panels of so one could bolt through but you need quite a long driver.

well i've done it, i just bought some cheap hooks which i screwed onto the pack panel (hard plastic) and they are up and i have put double sided tape at the bottom to reduce the vibration against the wall (give it a type of cusion and its working lovely.  i want to know get a smiliar pair of speakers (no more than R1000) to now replace the yamaha satelites on the rear walls...and i have another 2 spare satellites for 7.1 should i want to go that route in the future...

thanks for your replies.
