DIY Fest 2006
« on: April 03, 2006, 11:27:42 am »
I would like to extend a BIG THANKS to Alex for organizing the event.

I know it has been something he has wanted to do for a long time, and it's great that he finally managed to do it.  Never mind simply organizing the event - the man actually managed to organize 6 Class A Maestro amplfiers, a Valve amp, a pre-amp, DVD players, projector, subwoofers, everything.  If you follow some of the American DIY fests then you will know that those guys don't even have that kind of amplification running their systems.

Also a big thanks to Martin for organizing the event, and helping everyone to setup their speakers.  The man did a particularly good job on my set, so hats off to the man.

All in all, I think the event was a great success - I can only speak for myself here, but I had a huge amount of fun - also met alot of interesting and like-minded people.

Thanks very much to all the speaker builders that were there as well - some guys had to bring their equipment in two cars (Norval) and hoist huge cabs up stairs, but that did not stop us having about 10 sets of speakers.

I look forward to the next DIY fest - I think it will be even better than this one.

A big thanks and cheers!
Ian.

Ian, I completely agree with you.
Martin and Alex, you both did well, thanks. I'll deffinitely be at the next fest.

Although not part of the Forum, I think we should also say thaks to Nico and Andre for supplying the Meastro amps for the fest. The Meastro's did their job well in testing our speakers. Alex, I hope you can convince Nico to bring them along for the next fest as well.

Of the topic, Ian I just want to mention that I visited your web page, and I take my hat of for the way you've build your speakers. Your wood work is excelent.

Cheers
Norval

Thanks very much for the comments Norval.  There is nothing like pain and suffering.  I would be happy to host some of your projects on my website if you want them on the web.

Many people at the show commented to me that your choice of finishing is excellent - the matt black with cherry is a killer.

Do you have any pictures, etc we can upload?  I could do the write-up for you if you don't have it.  I have the new template for the website ready - it will look way better than what's currently there.

Cheers,
Ian.

Thanks Ian, it'll be nice to have some of my projects hosted on your web page. Unfotunatly on the horns I only have photos of the completed project. It was a very interresting project though, and also the most complex project I ever tried.

Cheers

What paint finish did you apply to your current project? I thought that it was stunningly understated and had an almost powder coated appearance and feel to it.

It's no problem if you don't have photos of the build stages of the horns.  We can always supplement with some drawings and write-ups.  Let me know which projects you want to put on the site, and how much information and pictures you have on them, then we can come up with some good reading material to upload.  Perhaps we can take the discussion off-line.  My email address is Ian[at]sawdust[dot]co[dot]za.

Cheers,
Ian.

I hear so to from Andries Oberholzer. Half a page apparently including a couple of photos.
