There was one on AVSA for a mere R1200.00 a few days ago....
Player has many fans though it was always a little anaemic too me. Not a lot of low.

Excellent, excellent CD-player this and very hard to find these days!  Need to be partnered with high quality amp and speakers in order to exploit its full potensial.

Have compared it with cdps at twice the price but still have to find another that can beat it for sheer value and musical performance.   ;)

You must hear it after a few modifications, make you laugh at a standard KI.

I lost out on the Marantz CD63 MKII KI on AVSA for R1200, as the advertiser reneged on his initial agreement to sell it to me, in favour of a buyer who bought it together with some other components which were not even advertised. I do intend to modify the player, but first I need to lay my hands on one.

So guys, who is actually willing to offer one as per my request?

I have one client who may consider moving his 63KI on.  He would want a bit more then R1200.00 I would think.
What was the name of the fellow who was selling one in avsa? Just to see it is not the same guy.

Hi RK,

It is a MkII. Very good condition, hence the asking price. Still a bargain in my opinion. A little dry below as Croak says, but such an open soundstage you'll have to pay many times more for a new player.

HFX 011 907 9092. Ask for Jacques or Wayne.

What does "very good condition" mean in terms of electronic equipment? Does it only relate tot he cosmetics of the unit, or does it also relate to the internals. If so how is it to be proven that it is in very good condition.

Reason I am asking is that I am also after a similar player for a bedroom, and although the cosmetics may be good (ie it doesnt look like it was run over by a truck) how do you know the laser is going to last. If you think about it somebody that looked after the player well (no scratches etc) would have been into his system and would therefore have racked up more hours than usual.
Caution, whatever you read above, may, wonder of wonders, contain some level of jocularity.

The laser on the KI is cheap and easy to replace, you just have to hope it was not modified by someone with eleven ....uhm, thumbs.

So KI is actually a Pretoria acronym for Ktjiep and Iezee  8)

Good points there, Ross. As AV inferred, better then look for one with readily replaceable optics. It 's a gamble you take with used equipment.

The Marantz CD63 MKII KI that was sold for R1200 in Cape Town was advertised by Marius on AVSA. I will contact HFX tomorrow as I only accessed my home email after work hours today. I think that R1995 is a bit steep if one has to factor in the cost of a laser replacement of about R1000. I will consider it if the machine is in good cosmetic condition with remote, manual and KI certificate and if it is still available.

One must realise that the laser unit could be on its way out if it is an original one and most KI owners would have put them to good use. These players are at least 10 years old and the fact that they are still in fair demand, even to be modified says a lot for them.

Nevertheless, is there anything else out there for around R2000 on the used market which would outperform the KI or give it quite a run especially on the low(bass) end?

How are the ARCAM ALPHA 7 or 8 CD players which I am told are excellent value on the used market?

I would value the opinions and inputs of fellow audiophiles.
