New competition entry option
« on: July 01, 2008, 02:38:09 pm »
Hi guys, just to let you know, you can now submit entries via the AVSA website, as opposed to using the old snail mail option. Click on the competition button, submit the relevant details, such as which competition, which issue, etc. and click submit. I still have three Sarah Bareilles CDs left from that competition, which is really nice, so if you're quick off the starting line, there's still time to win!

Edit - Wrong artist I was thinking of. Missy is July issue, Sarah is June. Seriously great CD if you haven't got it.

Oi! Don't mock my reception woes! Actually, I have quite a nice Madonna giveaway lined up for the next issue - a bit different in that the main prize is a collector's edition package comprising a double VINYL  ::)  set plus CD!

Much as I like vinyl, it is still about the music though my wife may enter....

VINYL you say, pray do tell, which issue might that be, might just motivate me to buy it ...

Glad someone finds it worthwhile reading, I find a copy once, in awhile, with an article, that gets me to buy a copy, but even then, it is not worth the cover price ...

Let me guess, you're a Stereophile reader. They tend to stand out here. Moan, moan, moan...  ;)

Oh, I get to see the odd Stereophile, (I know someone who subscribes to it), it is a far superior journal than AVSA, (maybe because AVSA wants to do the impossible- please everybody) but as with most hi-fi/sound/music magazines, they don't seem to take folks who use serious (exception - Wes Phillips), QUALITY HEADPHONES and HEADPHONE AMPS seriously, and I am not talking about the little white thingies one plugs into an iPod and similar, items like Audio Technica W1000's, and W5000's, Ultrasone Edition 9's, Sennheiser HD 650's, Grado GS 1000,s & R1,s etc. Yamamoto HA-02 amps, Mapletree , Meier amps etc ...

But the I suppose we are on the lunatic fringe or something similar, Surround sound SUCKS and don't mention TV/DVD's,  even worse, ...  :o

Yes, I realise that some of those items all on their lonesome, cost more than most of you are prepared to spend on your entire system ... , but that is your loss, ... , and the only thing that SUCKS more than TV/DVD's is compressed music ... , possibly the poor sods who enjoy it might suck, just a little more ...

The corner store is having a sale at the moment on Happy Pills. I suggest you go buy yourself a bumper pack. Good luck with enjoying that other superior magazine. I wish you well.  ;D

I bought a two-year subscription to Stereophile which, thankfully, has just expired. I have not even opened the last few issues, they are still in plastic wrap. I chose not to renew my subscription.

Having actually bought and paid for the magazines qualifies me for making an opinion on them!

Just as I find no worthwhile reason to subscribe to Stereophile, I have even less reason to do so, to AVSA.

Part of the problem, is they have made their "audience" they are targeting way too broad, i.e. if I am lucky, damn lucky there will be 3 articles in a copy once every six months or so, I find of interest, and very lucky if I find 1 in the remaining months editions ... , and well the adverts bore me to death, nothing much new there, that interests me, and the "grapevine" has proven reliable, and well then there is the great WWW, just to check ...
