I was looking at a Samsung 42" vs Sony 50" at Cats Digital recently and initially thought the Sony had no change against the Samsung, specifically ito contrast. The Samsung was just that much more vivid with pitch black blacks and crisp colours where the Sony had dark grey blacks and more wasehed out colours. Untill I started to look carefully, and herin my warning. The Samsung looses almost all definition in darker areas. Anything in the shade of a tree for example is black - only. On the Sony you can actually see what's in the shade, not on the Samsung.
It could be a matter of dropping the contrast on the Samsung, fair enough, BUT just make sure that you are not fooled by black blacks like I was...
