DSTV - Digital Audio
« on: July 19, 2005, 11:52:03 am »
Hi,

I saw on the user Manual for the DSD-990 (I think) Multichoice decoder, there is a SPDIF coax output...

Does this work? And is the audio always just stereo? Or do the transmit the 5.1 audio for some movies?

Thanks,
Cheers
Greg

Ps. Just for interests sake, how many of you guys have DSTV, i don't  :(

Hi Greg

I have DSTV (single view) and no my decoder does not have digital coax out. However my neighbour has the dual view decoder and his does have digital coax out. Unfortunately they only transmit in stereo, I dont think they have the forsight yet to transmit in 5.1. I beleive the UK has only had 5.1 transmission for about 18 months on FREEVIEW (can anyone confirm this?) so we should get it in about 2025AD.
BTW I run my dstv into my amp and it sounds quite good in PLII.

Cool, thanks for the info  :D

Is the stereo that your neighbour uses via normal analog RCAs, or via the digital coax output?

No problem.

He's using analogue :? . I told him if I were him I'd use the digital but he's not too concerned. I think I must bring his decoder to my house and try the digital out :D .
