Doh! I had my threads crossed with the metal, old vs new. Ok agreed, from a mastering perspective, serj suck big time.

Funny how the definition of heavy metal has changed over the years - when I was a kid Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Blue Oyster Cult etc. were termed heavy metal bands.

True

Although those bands, all of which I like, I classify as Hard Rock, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden etc Metal and Metallica, Megadeth etc Thrash (Although Metallica's latest is more like thrash)

Hey guys.
What tool can I use to visually see this compression like it is posted in the threads?
I'm playing flacs with foobar. Somehow I'm not sure if that bar at the bottom is accurate?

Unzip the FLAC first and maybe it wont be so compressed ;D

To see the waveform the easiest is Audacity - cross platform, free...

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/

To open FLAC you either need the new beta, or convert from FLAC to WAV and then open.

I can still see flecks of white in that graph, maybe on the next album they'll get it perfect.  :o
