Toss up between Wilson Audio Alexandria and Evolution Acoustics MMTHREE

Although they've long been discontinued, still unaffordable but still very desireable; No 33H

I think these are dying for a proper photo(Side-eyeing Ian with envy): Maestro Audio A220

If you mean price, 300k x4 (~$160 000)

nope - try maybe around 5 times that - last i looked at a Wilson pricelist they were listed at R1,7bar (for brand new) or something like that in a physical pricelist i saw at a dealer where i listened to the Wilson Sasha's with a Krell amp/CD combo

just to give you an idea - heres an internet article i found

http://www.luxlife.co.za/electronics-gadgets/wilson-audios-alexandria-xlf-speaker-same-price-as-a-bentley-continental.html

Wilson audio's cheapest speaker is the Duette which is listed at around R125k here in SA from what i know ($12500 in the US)

maybe on a straight exchange rate conversion - but you have to take into account the VAT and duties as well as dealer profit margin so it is a bit more than 1.2Bar here in sunny SA

Lol, I see I've missed the "1" in front. What really contributes to high end speakers being so expensive? Is it truly that they are really expensive to engineer or is it a "because we can" price?

1) exotic materials
2) longstanding research and development
3) extraordinary craftsmanship
4) exclusivity
5) did i mention incredible finish and craftsmanship  ;)

probably a mix of both though - and to make things worse here in SA is the transportation and shipping & handling costs as well as import duties where applicable as well as taxation take a bigger toll

the 802D's are terrific and dont worry if you cannot afford them ...... you have company cos i probably will only be able to afford them in about 10 lifetimes from now - best I would be able to do now is maybe a pair of CM8's or CM9's at a push and thats considering i sell what i have now too

I once touched a pair of those...

My wish is also simple...pro room analysis and treatment. Would probably bring the greatest benefits in terms of bang for buck.

True ..... but the idea behind this thread is to drool over the exotic and high end ridiculously priced stuff that people lust after without being able to afford  ;)

In that case you can also add some B&W 800 series to my name  :)

...and I cannot see anything wrong with this:
