Have a Dremmel you could borrow. ;)
I have done quite a bit of cabling recently and it works well.

I have used scissors, rotary blades and utility knives to cut heatshrink but will give the dremmel a try.

DREMEL VersaTip Gas soldering tool.
Has a fitting that turns it into a mini heat gun.

Lol. I know, just could not resist. Used to use a similar thing from Steinel before.  Nicer then a gun for nooks and crannies and shrinking inside kit as it is  erh, uhm, directional and focussed. Still like a gun most for cable builds. Not least because you don't need to watch it while it is in stand by...

The heatshrink you have there is 3:1 ratio, not the standard 2:1

I use a heatgun to shrink it.  In order to keep it even, I slowly turn the cable as I am shrinking the sleeve down.

The best way I have found to cut the braided sleeve is to use a cable shear.  This give a clean cut without pulling or otherwise messing up the sleeve.

Good luck!

Regards,
Ian.

My wife has a nasty hair dryer. It melted the insulation off the internal wires of a CAT5e cable when I tried making cables a while ago  :o

If you don't get enough heat quickly, the prolonged almost hot enough heat, melts things.

There are other cheapie gas powered guns available. And not really worse than Dremel or Weller pyropen (also has heat tip)

There are also gas powered chefs torches for créme brûlée, but there is a naked flame, unlike the proper heat tips.

I might have an electric heat shrink gun at the office (providing nobody has taken a shine to it). PM me if that would be interesting to you.
