2k Paint - Poisoning is good for you?
« on: February 03, 2012, 09:14:36 am »
Hi All

Sorry guys, I accidentally removed the first post. Anton, please send me the text of your original post. -- Timber_MG

A long story short:
Friend sprays 2k without mask, he got ill and dizzy.

How do you spray? What are your experiences?

I use Duco for this spesific reason, less poisoning ;D
One of my workers got a tip for a sore tooth- A-grade thinners on a earbud kills any toothache, and it really worked,we had to let him sit down for 10 minutes.
The best bad stuff for speakerbuilding is Woodoc, smells wonderfull ;).

Put a whole clove on the tooth, and keep it there, works well, and you don't have to sit down... ;)
OK! I've had it! I don't give anymore Kharma. Kharma should work in mysterious ways...

BUT Don't do it to often. My wife tried this "remedy" over a weekend before she could get to the dentist and it caused massive inflamation.

Whats the difference between Duco and 2k? There has always been some sort of fuzzy line there for me. Sometimes it seems people use Duco as interchangable with 2k, and others they differentiate it.

Hi

I do spary with 2k fairly often and I dont have the full breatihng apperatus.

I think if you use it often you need to be very carefull. I do use a propper face mask with new organic cartridges every time and you need to wear gloves and full coveralls. Also make sure the room is well vented and dont hang arround longer than you need.

The best with 2k is outside under shade with a light wind, preferably a gause pop-up gazebo if you don`t have a nice spraybooth.
You do get a fully shielded facemask with powered airfilter from Trend or Triton, but @ R3000-00 or more.

Don't be a hero and spray 2K without a mask, the solvents are the least of you're problems. Some of the 2K paints contain isocyanates , Cyanide . I buy my mask and filters from G Fox and Co, but there are LOADS of companies that sell the stuff. The fancy charcoal filters work out to about R100 for the pair and the mask is R50'ish. What's you're health worth :)

+1 to Hugo's post!

Don't think you will do a quick 5 minute spray job so you don't need a mask.  Life is to short!

Duco is inferior to 2K ,It tends to fade much quicker than 2k. It will not have the sheen that 2K gives you from the  gun. 2K has a longer life- span than duco ,it will not scratch and chip as easy as Duco. It is very important to use a mask in a well ventilated area.It is also recommended that you have a glass of fresh milk after spraying .  I also find 2k  easier to use than Duco,it does however takes much longer to dry. If you want the 2k to give you a satin or matt finish just add matting paste until you are satisfied with your finish .
