As the topic headline, which would you choose, price aside?

I would think twice about buying an NR808, there's a large batch of defective x08 receivers out in the wild. They work for a few months and then have some sort of meltdown where they start flipping continously through their sound modes and don't respond to commands.

I don't know how common it is but it happened to my NR808. Onkyo knows about the problem and swapped it out for an NR809 without any questions. I'm not saying it will happen, but I'd be cautious.

I have a 808 at the moment which I bought brand new.  Not a single problem though, and I've had it for four months.  Excellent for HT, and very impressed with stereo also.  I have a chance to get a good conditio 3067 and was wondering if it would be an upgrade?

This is an issue with many of the network X08 models. Though I think it might be a US / 110v issue. Haven't heard of this issue being confirmed on a 220 / 240 v model.

The US models are a lot cheaper and lower in quality. Just look at their back speaker binding posts and you will see what I mean.

I'm an Onkyo fan, so I'd say go for the Onkyo ;D

Oh, in that case definitely not. It's a sideways move, not an upgrade.

I'm an Onkyo fan too, but I can confirm it is a problem with the 220/240v Onkyos as well.

PAPPA 3, you like your NR808, I would say hold on to it rather and upgrade further down the line when new technologies warrant it. If it does develop the issue some of these models suffer from, Onkyo should replace it with the newer equivalent as they did mine (which would be a nice upgrade feature wise) so you really can't lose if you choose to hold on to it.

I picked the RX-V2067 over the TX-NR808 though it was pretty close and more based on preferences so I'm sure the RX-V3067 will be a more worthwhile upgrade with its higher quality DACs, but whether its worthwhile would depend on how much you would lose on selling the NR808? I also wouldn't worry too much about it getting out of date as Yamaha is pretty good at keeping the firmware up to date. If you intend to pair it with Monitor Audio speakers then the Yamaha AVRs would also be a good choice.

According to my local sound shop they send back onkyo receivers to the supplier on a weekly basis! And all the suppliers say is, lightning damage. If I had to choose I would go for the yammie

I've had mine for 6 months, no hiccups.  On weekends, its on for +- 8 hours a day, without any issues ( TX-NR 609).  In durbs, my dad has the 606, sasme story :)  Could just be a bad batch.

I used to have a Yamaha RXV 2600; hated it and sold it at R2k less than what I paid for it 2nd hand just to get rid of it.

But then again, different strokes for different folks :)

It's only the x08 series that has the problem, not Onkyo receivers in general.

Pappa3 if you get another networked 7.2 onkyo from your sources... please can I have first dibs? I love the yamaha you got for me but would prefer an upgrade / crossgrade to onkyo.

How about my Onkyo TXNR808.  It retailed for R14990-15990.  You're welcome to make me a reasonable offer via PM, as are others.  It'll knock the 609 out of the water IMHO. All reasonable cash offers will be entertained now that my wife has her eyes on a car upgrade :D.  Literally about 5 months old, and I got it new and sealed!

Thanks for making me feel inadequate with my 609  :-[  Anyways, want to trade?  :D

Sorry man, the 609's are highly rated too ;)  Unfortunately it has to be cash 'cos thats what I'll have to pay for the 3067, unless it's a sizeable cash difference, then I can flog the 609 and pay the balance.  But that's what PMs are for.

Onkyo is a solid performer built rock solid. I would recommend it to anyone. Personally I dumped the brand after the 602. It could not play HDCD encoded discs through digital out (it still doesnt). Onkyo was dismissive and I had to live with it like that. I also happed to have lots of music with this type of coding. my next amp was a Yamaha.  But the 602 is still going strong with everything (except the remote which doesnt like winter) still working perfectly.
