Pioneer of beauty...
« on: February 02, 2012, 04:07:00 pm »
So I notice this insignificant amp standing on my friends equipment rack.....

The bible should have said, Thou shalt not covet thy neighbours amplifier... let alone his wife  :D :D

I was born analog, not digit by digit....

They were the M-22 and M-25's, from what I can see early 80's, and best used in pure Class A although M-25 could do Class AB

And looks to be expensive now.....

Ooooooh. I want one.
LF: Cheap but decent interconnects so I can try to hear the difference, or not.

Beatiful amp. In my hands i have a copy of the June 1978 Practical Hifi magazine in which the Pioneer M22 power amp was reviewed together with the Pioneer C21 preamp. Surprisngly, when the reviewing panel compared the M22 with the class AB and mosfet-based  Hitachi HMA 7500, both driven by the C21 preamp, they could not detect and sonic differences.

I've got one of those Hitachi HMA-7500's and I can tell you it sound truly brilliant for such an old amp. I was going to gut it as I really like the look, but after playing with it a bit I decided to just leave it the way it is.

That sort of styling was quite popular with Japanese manufacturers in the early 80s

This is Hitachi's take on it

And this from Mitsubishi
