The trade on the vehicle is about R 17,000 with the retail about R 22,700. Obviously vehicle condition and mileage, etc. will have an impact on the price of the vehicle.

Also, not certain if it applies to all insurance companies, but all 'extras' such as mag wheels, etc., add value to the vehicle. My EX insurance company tried to pull a fast one on me when my previous car was stolen and wiped out in a car chase with the cops.

According to Autotrader, the retails value is ranging from R40k to R45 k. I think you can find the most definitive figures from those litlle booklets that car dealers subscribe to and use.

Phone Opel and find out. You should ask for the value each year and tell your insurance to reduce accordingly or they'll make you pay full premiums for reduced cover.

+1 Though I might be wrong, I think that this practise was declared illegal (or bad business practise). But yes, in years past the insurance companies were happy to conveniently ignore the REAL value of your car, and allow you to pay for a value they would never even think of paying out.

They'd actually hike the premiums if you're not careful.

Thx guys, I could not find a car dealer's guide that's old enough. The figure of R17k to R22k seems to be in line.
