Reviewers not allowed to get paid by the publication they write for?
That is how I read it. Being paid by the manufacturer or their agent is a different matter.
Note the red bit of my quote - reviewers are paid to be reviewers and they may even be paid by word count as is traditional - rarely are you paid for
a review. There's been big stories in the press here locally where journalists were paid by a certain political party to write slanted articles undeservedly favourable to them... same thing.
Mods please split this off if it veers out of control which it invariable does when the ......... - I'd rather not say it ... not going to finish that sentence so as not to be insulting.
