Folks, I just received  this baby rather unexpectedly over the past weekend, so she's still brand new in the box.
Haven't gotten around to unpack it to take some pics yet, but it sure sounded astounding in the showroom! Here are some links to reviews that should tell you all you need to know about this 2011 product of the year...

...and....

I'm located in the Mother City and would prefer local pick-up, but can arrange shipping countrywide for about R300 or something in that region (...can't quite remember the exact figure)

I have the same one... Got mine maybe 6 months now. Great value for money! Very happy with mine. For that price? Common that is a give away!!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: This is a brilliant receiver (and I'm biased as I have one) - a good buy considering it's brand new.

Hi

How would the warranty work. Do you give me the original purchase slip. Sorry not sure how this works?

  • Why can't "Shut the hell up" be a virtue?
And for those who have doubts as to SAman being a newby.

I bought my Onkyo TX-SR608 from him a couple months back and he couriered the amp up at his own cost as well as him being a very honest and open guy to deal with
Under construction again...

Thanks Bullet, really nice of you bud :) .  And no doubt, the same can definitely be said of you as an excellent buyer of course  ;)

I have answered Greg's PM, along with some other questions he had regarding shipping, etc, but for the benefit of others who may also be interested:
I returned from overseas the previous weekend, and chose this amp the day I left against credit due to me from the retailer there, hence the excellent price.
So there's a full 12-month warranty in place on it (minus about 8 days, of course), but it's not local. I do however go back there regularly (maybe 3 or 4 times a year), so in the very unlikely event of a problem with the receiver within the warranty period, I would be willing to assist by taking it back for warranty service on my next trip. That said, I do not expect any problems, as I have purchased many, many toys abroad over the years without any problems, many of which I still use today.

BTW per Greg's query.... it's a black unit, and box has only been opened to test the reciever itself. All the accessories/docs/batteries/etc are untouched. If the buyer prefers, I'll gladly cut off the UK plug and replace it with a SA standard plug before shipping/collection.
Please feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

If someone really wants an AVR but is a bit anxious about getting this overseas sourced unit, then take me up on my offer. I will take this onkyo and in return give you my similarly new demo unit Yamaha RX-V767 which I got from Brent (Pappa3) in December. Brent has already confirmed the 1 yr warranty with me (probably 10 months left now). I have the box, remote, MIC etc. Only thing I DONT have is the manual (have pdf printed out and bound though)

From what I can see featurewise it looks the same except that the Onkyo has networking whilst the Yamaha has Dual HDMI out as well as pre-outs for all 7.2 connections. Not sure about the pricing difference between the units, you guys will have to guide me here.

Go weigh up the options and let's see:

Good luck with sale SAman

The Yamaha RX-V767 is a great amp too - I know because that's what I'm using myself! Pure co-incidence tho - always liked the Yamaha sound. For my setup the essentially required feature is the Dual-HDMI. This being to feed both my PJ and 3D TV from it, so highly recommended for those who have 2 displays. I don't stream radio, since I don't have ADSL at home.
So folks, now you have a choice of 2 different brands of receivers here, thanks to Abu ;)
