Cross-over components

I have two questions regarding DIY cross overs - what's the typical cost for building a pair of simple, two-way designs? And where to get the components? Alex, can you get them for me?

Hi Kay
The cost of the crossover depends on the complexity and order you using.Typically 2nd order requires at least 4 components.i could design a crossover for you if you could let me know what drivers you'll be using,Seas maybe,lol..If you've played around with crossover calculators you'' notice the values that it spits out are none standard especially for the caps. The capacitors I usually use are the Sonicap ones. These are audiograde polypropylene units and their price ranges from about R50 upwards each. The inductors I can get them wound for you from about R40 onwards depending on the values required.I am hoping to build my own machine to wind coils so as to reduce the cost because I current outsource this to an armature winder.i also make sure the tolerances are within 2 % so that the accuracy of your crossover is pretty close to original design. For good quality components expect to pay about R200 for the crossover per side. There are cheaper ways of doing it but again one needs to decide the level of compromise .Speaker design in general is always about compromise..

Excellent, that's just what I wanted to hear. And yes, thinking about Seas drivers ;)
