Chassis?
« on: January 18, 2012, 12:03:00 pm »
Ok So i recon afew ampliers has been built since the existance of avforums.co.za
What did you guys use for a chassis?

Is there a place where I can buy ready made blanks? So that I only need to drill the holes that is needed etc...
Or who has contacts with a plate bender?

Ping TangMonster,
Can you maybe post some samples?
I'm almost finished with all the bits. I've ordered the new transformer, and that is pretty much all I'm waiting for.
Next, all of this needs to go into a chassis I guess :D

Mine's gonna go in salvaged cabs of an old receiver and cdp. I might powder coat the the top and sides and will put my own faceplate on.

I reckon it will look just fine, if not fantastic. 8)
I used to have SUPER POWERS.
But my therapist took them away. :vsad:

My heat sinks will form the main structure of mine. Will then use carbon fiber plate for the other sides. Will see once I have all the LED's and buttons etc and will have the labels for that put into the carbon fiber so it can't come off etc.

Hi Crafty

I have done 2 group buy runs.

here is the thread to the second one:

http://www.avforums.co.za/index.php/topic,12409.30.html

I still have to get faceplates made. So will be doind another order for some faceplates. I fyou feel you want to order an enclosure with those.
All the metal beding places only openend beginning of the week.

I am hoping to start a new thread for those who want faceplates or possibly an enclosure. Prices should not change.

I am using the 135mm one for my 5 channel kidnap.

Sadly since it is a group buy I only order enough for the amount people needs. So sadly the best i can do you , is to say you must jump into the group buy next week. Then it should be about 3 to 4 weeks before it will be ready.

I do have one 95mm enclosure extra. If your heatsinks will fit this should work just as well?

The main heatsink is 210 x 85 x 64mm, so it will fit nicely. If you don not mind, I will take that one.
I will then get the faceplate on your next group buy. Thing is, I'm looking for an unprinted undrilled/pressed faceplate. Obviously my design is not the same as yours, so the faceplate will have to be a different design, thus I can just drill and file them my self.
Not sure about the printing though. That will be a challenge, but then again, I laugh in the face of challenges ;)

Hi Crafty

The pictures is of one faceplate i made myself for a very specific project ( subwoofer /room EQ) the normal faceplates only has 4 holes for the 4 mounting points.

See the below picture for reference.

ignore the hole drilled in the middle for the power switch. I drilled that in by hand. The faceplate i get manufactured just has the 4 round holes for mounting.
They are made from 4.5mm Alu. IN the next group buy there will be an option for natural (like in picture) or black anodized faceplates.

We can talk via PM about shipment for the enclosure.

I actually have 1 extra 95mm faceplate for you so can send you a 95mm natural anodized faceplate and a 95mm enclosure immedieatly.

Take note:

To keep cost down the faceplates are punched and not laser cut. So edges are not perfectly square.

I'll pm you..

I might actually have an untouched 135mm enclosure for sale... I've got another enclosure which might suite my amp build better.

Let me know if you are interested :)

Your TIMING SUCK  ;D ;D ;D
I just paid for the 95mm with shipping from cape to gp.
No worries, the 95mm will actually work for now. It's only a 2 x 40W That I'm building. (Pre and Power + Phono stage, and possibly DAC to be added later.)

Anyone else interested?
