Restaurant reviews CT

Haha, OK, not that serious, but just thought I'd share my recent CT experiences:

1. Pepénero (Mouille Point) - great food, prices do not seem to be tourist trap style. Will support them again.

2. Nando's (Gardens) - Food up to spec, service mediocre to poor, tables were dirty and sticky, the condiment caddies on the tables even more so, shoddy appearance, general impression of cleanliness / hygiene not good.

3. Woolies Tapas bar (Woolworths V&A): Nothing fancy of course, service was fair but food was good and prices reasonable.

4. Ferryman's (V&A): What? No more Mitchells beer products? Sold out to SAB it seems. Was always quite OK but now firmly in the tourist trap category. Grilled veggies that came with the bangers & mash looked like they've been dried in the sun.

5. Kauai (Camps Bay): Good service, great coffee, fresh food.

6. Gourmet Burger (Shortmarket Street, CT): Really overrated! Poor service, burger patties are "high density" (i.e. not coarse or loose enough). Why the hype?

7. Rossi's (Hermanus): Have eaten there many times. No frills and ancient decor, but great pizza and pasta!

Pepenero's is excellent. Haven't been there in a while - I need to make a plan.

Ferrymans is a joke. Insane prices and rubbish food. Firemans in town is as expensive, but at least their food is top notch.
Mitchell's products are still available at the Mitchell's Brewery right next door to Ferrymans.

Of late I have been a very regular customer of Dale's Black Angus in the Paddocks Centre in Milnerton. The best steak in town. Well worth a visit. 8)

You gave my fav CT restaurants a miss....sadly.
Primi, Blouberg
Brass Bell , Kalkbaai
On the Rocks, Houtbaai
Panama Jack's, CT Harbour

I tend to weigh the feel of the place coupled with good prices, just as much as the food and service. Although, due to my waitering days in a top notch restaurant I don't accept poor service....its a curse, really. ;)
I used to have SUPER POWERS.
But my therapist took them away. :vsad:

In all honesty none of the restaurant outings were planned, they just "happened" around my schedule. I'm also a Primi fan.

Its better that way. I find planned restuarant trips to generally be costly and or disappointing.

I assume you're back home now?

Jeesh you guys are a bunch of heathens. I am reticent to mention my favorite spots lest I find you there.

Can you give us a bit of a mini review? More details?

Dias Tavern is THE spot for Porra food in Cape Town. They do an incredible espatada as well, and their trinchado is sublime.

Stolen Quotes,"
The theme at Dias Tavern, an informally decorated Portuguese taverna, was inspired by the 17th century explorer Bartholomew Dias. Open for lunches, with a beautiful view of Table Mountain, as well as dinner, there is an extensive menu with a wide choice of meals.

Included in the menu are fresh linefish & other seafood specials; meat dishes & charcoal grilled steaks; spicy trinchado or Portuguese fillet steaks; peri-peri baby chicken or prawns; smoked eisbein, espetada (traditional braaied steak on a skewer), vegetable platters & salads.

The list goes on & on ... If you decide to experience this continental atmosphere, you will also be tempted by an array of desserts. Then fiesta & dance the night away to live music playing your favourite golden hits. "
