If people decide to built the frames for a absorber, it will probably take a few minutes per frame. The one I built took me approximately 20 minutes, but that was because it was two people helping, with the second person being my 4 year old son that insisted that he can drill in the screws.
I used some thin pine I bought at Builders, but I have alot of wood from a failed wendyhouse, that I thought I would cut to size. I used some 90 degree corners (also from builders, but I think Chamberlains would be cheaper and that and screws. WE can also use a nailgun on fastening the corners, but I do not know how well that would work. Chris?
The Soundlite boards come in one size, namely 1,200 x 600. I have 40 mm and 25 mm thick. The 25 mm are at a density of 80 kg/m2, and the 40 mm are 50 or 60 kg/m2 (cannot remember). They unfortunately only had 20 pieces of 25 mm high density board. I took it all. The boards are about R62 (VAT excl) each. The 40 mm boards are about R60 each. It is effectively compressed "think-pink". I am currently reading on the net about the boards, as the one side is covered with a thin "plastic" membrane that the guy said I should leave there, as it improves the absorption qualities.
We just build a plain frame. Fill it with one or more boards and cover it with plain linen. I will go and buy some linen tomorrow. Each person that want to take some absorbers can go and buy his own material to cover the plain absorber. I bought some material with animal print, but with hindsite I would not use the same material again (too expensive, too busy) and rather go for a plain light brown.
My staple gun is sh*t, cheap and cumbersome, and the best would be if some-one can borrow us a compressed air one. I guess with cutting we are likely looking at about 20 - 30 minutes per absorber per person. If we get a factory process going we can slightly reduce the time.
So I guess my vote goes for absorbers.
