Guys, please post your proposed projects up so that I can add them to a list. We'll decide which projects we can quick-build so that we can go through the development of the box on the forum so long.

Hi,

I would like to be different. I, as I am sure of a number of people, have a number of projects going. I currently have 2 sets of speakers that needs finishing, and if I consider the cut MDF, it may even be 3. I have an F5 amp, 2x preamps and a few other smaller things happening. But, the one thing I actually seriously need would be a number of room treatment / bass traps. And I am sure that most people need something like that, even if it is only one or two.

May I suggest that we consider getting together and build a number of these traps. In particular the shallow traps that one can hang/fix to a wall. I can try and buy 20 or 40 sheets of compressed fibreglass that we can use to fill them. We get all together, build something that we all actually need, we just never think about it.

Regards

Now there is an idea worthwhile pursuing. The flat wall-panels are wide-band absorbers and easily constructed. Nice project. A corner bass trap would be a very good idea for me as well. Gets my vote.

I have 2 rolls of think pink :P ... but the flat wide-band absorbers is what I am looking for now. Seems there are at least 2 other people interested in this, and, since it is around the corner, should I perhaps get 30 or 40 sheets. I will get prices now, and if you need a sheet please PM me.

Morne: I assume that you're talking about a square timber frame with some printed cloth pulled over it and some damping material hidden out of view ?

I would suggest something like Polyester as it's much better to work with the stuff than Fiberglass. I don't think the insulation fibreglass is denser than the polyester, but perhaps post some pricing in this thread.

Can we get a vote on Project choice? I'll send out a PM shortly and start compiling hte attendance list in the main thread.

I propose we use this. It is the same stuff (I believe) that Atjan used a while ago.

See http://www.eisw.co.za/index_files/GLASSWOOLECOSOUND.htm

The 40 mm cost about R60 a sheet of 1200 x 600 mm
The 25 mm cost about R50 a sheet of 1200 x 600 mm

Lemme know.

I'll poll manually so that the people attending decide. So please choose from the projects list and tell us what you guys want to do. I'll pass by Silverton Houthandelaars today to check the prices on wood. Perhaps Cirr can advise on alternate sources?

You don`t want to go to Leonie-hulle,What type of wood and what size?
For a project like a wall mount bass diffuser(Is ek reg ,Morne?) we need pine with a ply/mdf  panel
I have +- 1 cube here,so no prob at all,and comm ply from Chamberlain is fairly cheap.

Size please Morne/Martin/Anton, time is less than 48 hours
I would suggest 1,2m x 1,2m or 60cm anything that can be played with 1,2m x 2,4m(full sheet)

Unfortunately I might have to withdraw the Sonus Faber woofer project, I did not have time to repair the one faulty unit or collect materials for construction.

I could remove the healthy drivers for this exercise, but I doubt that I will be able to collect the other materials.

Also, the T/S parameters are unknown so a box design is a bit premature, although I think 34l tuned 40Hz should do it. If a measurement setup is available, T&S could be measured for the next round.

I could bring the speakers though for driver measurement and perhaps active setup, but it seems other speakers will be constructed, so it will depend on time available and interest.

Chris, I've already cut the wood for my (PC Speaker) project.  It will mainly be a build and, router out all the bits and pieces, kind of thing.

For the subwoofer project I'm in the dark as to size, as I don't have TS parameters.  My best guess for that would be about, about 1,2m x 2,4m.
But i feel this will more likely only be a measurement for the driver, than a build.

I'll even bring some failed experiments with :D (yes I have few of those)
