I am sure that your bank will/should help you out, its in their interest to do so. Should also be an option to move some of your credit card debt over to your budget account and re-finance it over a longer term. You should have a better interest rate on your credit card than you would get from a micro lender like DirectAxis or Capitec. Best of luck! Never fun dealing with unexpected expenses arriving at inopportune moments..

I'm sure bank can consolidate and re-finance for you.

Hi,

Thanks for all the advice - I think I've managed to sort a few things out in the last few hours.

As for the information, they're made up figures ... it was just to illustrate the situation :)

THat's an option X ....

Ideally, wanted to do this Balance Transfer, but need available 'space' on my credit card. However the next best thing would simply be to do a straight trasnfer

You can always request an increase in your limit?

Just be careful with the balance transfer thing, they lock you in for 18 months:

T&C:
4.   The minimum repayment period is 18 months.

Dolby,

Sad to hear your predicament. The advice given is valid. Go to the bank first. You can also contact all your fixed deductions and arrange for a one or two month deferment, else a reduced payment. They will be willing to assist. This includes banks, department stores etc, but sadly excludes individuals (such as the person you rent your apartment from). But you can try. A last alternative is to approach an administrator requesting a 6 - 12 month intervention to assist with dept restructuring. It is not the same as being placed under administration, but they would notify all the people and companies you owe some money, allocate a certain amount for you to life on, and arrange repayment details.

Please, never consider using a loan shark ....

Regards and good luck

I've just sorted myself out - so all good! Once again thanks for the advice!

xrapidx - I used to sell these things a10 years back and if they're still the same, that 18 months is the lowest you can take your payment over *but* you can settle whenever you wish without penalty (as it's your own budget anyhow).

Obviously as soon as you settle, the interest rate jumps from the 9.9% to whatever your standard is
