....convince the wife that a pair of fullrangers and a dedicated preamp for stereo are a necessity ;).....this is your "to do" list from me ;D

That'll happen. May take some time though.

Easily reversible. I didn't even notice.

The reason why I didn't noticed the switched channels was because I wired it correctly. I didn't look at the labels on the back when I was wiring.

How did that happen? ???

I think it was when the electrics were converted from positive earth to negative.
LF: Cheap but decent interconnects so I can try to hear the difference, or not.

No. I'd connected the left and right rca to the respective labels but I didn't look at the back. I'd just assumed right will be on right and left on left hence I connected it correctly by mistake.

there are 5 holes which means there are 2 options for 8 ohm speakers. Which 2 of the 3 do you use?

It does not matter. Connections 2 and 4 are the same (short), just for convenience to access all impedances with the provided shorting plug. Holes 2/4 are the loudspeaker output connection, to be connected to hole 1 (4 ohm), 3 (8 ohm) or 5 (16 ohm).
