McCartney's not made a single decent album without Lennon by his side.  I cannot even sit through his greatest hits.  The only songs he's made I can tolerate between decades are  Live and Let Die and Mull of Kintyre.  For a chap that's released almost 40 albums that's a pretty sad indictment.

while I don't really listen much to either band anymore, I liked the stones better in my youth. the beatles where sort of the nice guys in rock'n roll, and as a zeppelin man that wasn't really what I was after.
meanwhile I like quiet a few songs from the beatles and john lennon in particular, and have grown tired of divas like jagger and plant...

Goes to show how tastes differ ;) I don't mind either of those sonds, but prefer Jet and Band on the run. Make no mistake, I love John Lennon's music, but these songs come from when I was in Matric and will always bring back good memories.

Personally I prefered Uriah Heap, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin from the same era though.

Up until I read KR's autobiography I was a Stones man. Now, not so much.

I haven't read it yet. Care to give us a heads up?

Eish Gnarls - no sooner is one  shitfest finished and YOU start another! Take a club and beat your mate.
Caution, whatever you read above, may, wonder of wonders, contain some level of jocularity.

At least this will be one I can watch from the sidelines and try to moderate ;D

Definitely Rolling Stones out of the two though I have to admit I secretly listened all my dad's Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin LPs. :P

I'm mainly a Beatles fan since I went to a Beatles Concert in Wembley Stadium in 1965, after their return from the first USA trip.  I was near the back and had to look through binoculars to see the guys on stage.  It was a stunning concert and I was hoarse after it.  When it finished, it took 4 hours to get back home

It was the UK's first big outdoor concert and the sound could be heard 20 miles away

The Stones might still be rolling, but The Beatles left their legacy at its perfect peak, and for that they should always be applauded.

The Beatles vs the Rolling Stones
The Beatles vs Rolling Stones showdown was always between the fans, not the bands. In fact, it was The Beatles who hooked Mick Jagger and co up with their future manager/ producer Andrew Loog Oldham, and Decca records released The Rolling Stones' first EP at the insistence of George Harrison.

Points tally
In Rolling Stone's definitive 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time issue, The Beatles had already nabbed the top spot for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band and appeared a further two times before Rolling Stones' Exile On Main Street ambled in at Number 7. The Beatles have sold over 1 billion albums worldwide, had more #1 singles than any other group in history and the McCartney-penned 'Yesterday' is officially the most played song on radio ever. Can we stop now?

And the winner is ...
Man will argue on this point until the end of time, but it simply has to be The Beatles. The Stones might still be rolling, but The Beatles left their legacy at its perfect peak, and for that they should always be applauded. That said, as far as legendary rock 'n' rollers stand, you can't go past Keith Richards. It's doubtful Paul McCartney will ever be snorting his Dad's ashes or appearing as a pirate in a Hollywood blockbuster, so … let's agree to disagree, eh?

Other great rivals of music:
•50 Cent vs Kanye West
•Oasis vs Blur
•Britney Spears vs Christina Aguilera
•Nirvana vs Pearl Jam
•Tupac vs Notorious B.I.G
•Metallica vs Megadeath
•Powderfinger vs Ben Lee

I place zero stock in any of Rolling Stone magazine's Top 500 lists of anything. But I do agree that the Beatles had a much more profound impact on popular music than any other band.
