Here you go...

Masked off the veneered bits, then applied the 2K MS Primer.  The older I get the more I dislike that primer colour.  Unfortunately it only comes in this one colour  ???

I mixed up some black paint with a matting agent to knock the gloss levels off a bit.  Here you can see the back

Foot detail

Masking removed

Front view.  I quite like the look of the flat black

In house.  The colour in this photo is a bit weird.  I think my camera may be on its way out?

Close-up of the control panel on the front

Cheers,
Ian.

Looks great, would be nicely finished with a grille hiding that behemoth driver ;)

The pleasures of a >3% electrical -> acoustical conversion efficiency versus 1/10th that. Never underestimate the sensitivity of your fingertips. Your fingers can feel discontinuities measuring in microns. Take the sleeve of a cigarette pack (to reduce stiction) and move your hands over what appears to be smooth paint for a striking example.

I have also noticed cabinet motion with my 18s at full song (say 1kW) in the line of firing (though those cabs with driver were more like 60 kgs). Seat of your pants stuff. With a limp enclosure much of the mechanical force of the cone pressing against the air is absorbed by simple deflection of the baffle. I concur with vivo that what you feel is most likely mechanical deflection (a couple of 0.1 kgs cone mass vs. 140kg). You can estimate the motion by taking the proportion of cone mass/enclosure mass and multiplying that with your cone movement (conservation of energy). You will have some mechanical modes in the enclosure (torsion most likely) but the stiffness will reduce their level to insignificant levels. The individual panels will likely resonate well above your passband.

Very nice cabinetry there Ian.

Looks great, as always!
That sub is big and pretty enough to double as a coffee table. :)
Perhaps you can patent the idea! ;)

So I'm thinking design the grill to look a little bit like the cabinet is a storage cupboard's doors (with some fake "handles" in the middle) to surprise the crap out of people who didn't expect 2000 watts of nuclear brain damage to come out of it. Or is that a bit childish? :)
