just came across a record cleaning method anyone can try for himself. all you need is some wood glue...:

I can imagine the wife coming home finding every available surfaces covered in Lps waiting for the glue to dry.....

Jeez I have never felt the need to absolutely clean every record in my collection even though they were 20 years old and stored in a draughty garage - a good wipe with some cleaning fluid and a cloth - if they are buggered throw them away- it only cost you 20 ZAR - you spend more money on coffee on the way to work

A lot of mine were pretty grotty when I got them. Some were so bad that i've never played them. So now i'm going through everything...

LF: Cheap but decent interconnects so I can try to hear the difference, or not.

Buy a decent RCM it solves a number of problems including the photograph problem. After a good clean I still play albulms I purchased 25 years ago and they sound good.Obviously some of them are throw away frisbies but they are mainly local pressings from that era which never sounded that great when I purchased them.

I finally got around to starting my cleaning. What a difference. Only 300 more to go ...

I have yet to start. Currently I just give them a wipe with a micro fibre cloth before playing. Some of them are in dire need of a wash. Any one ever tried a hi preasure washer like those kartchers?

Hacked together a similar mini-cleaner. Works quite well -- didn't take all the clicks and pops out of my copy of Rocky Horror Picture Show (ftw!) but did reduce surface noise a lot. Scratched slot in vacuum cleaner tube, glued wooden stopper and pad of microfibre cloth.

Now what I'm looking for is one of those old ultrasonic foot spas to use for a RCM :)

thats pretty nifty mate... i am still trying to come up with a plan to seal the end of my pipe - i have tightly wound insulation tape but does move about alot

it is always cool to listen to a LP that is free of clicks and crackle but i have never been too critical especially if the Lps are pre-owned

I must say this that when I listen to music i do sit outside and thus making it a little less audible - what i do try and avoid is a record that hooks - then it gets binned if the cleaner does not fix it up which is more a case of compacted dirt and with a well aimed earbud and cleaning fluid generally sorts it out

I must say that the Moth RCM I bought a few years ago does it's job quite well.
Cleaned a few LP's last night and it did sound muuuuch better.

Disco Antistat. Bought it off Ebay, worked out at less than R500.

It works amazingly but it's a bit slow when changing records. The lab protector/axle isn't quick to remove.

Just had a thought, anybody tried a dishwasher yet  :)
We dont have one otherwise I would have tried it on an old LP. Presume the label will be gone.
