Dear Lightning. Thanks for destroying my NAD
« on: December 13, 2011, 02:48:18 pm »
How does this combo sound as a replacement?

JAMO S506 HCS3 running on a Merantz NR1402
I've got a Yamaha Sub that will fill in the low end gaps
This to replace my NAD T742

Haha, yeah... dont wanna order some china made knock-off called merantz :-p
Marantz it is then...
I see those speakers are rated 130W (Almost certainly over stated), and the Marantz is 50W. Will this be a problem?

Any one used this Marantz ? How it is with heat. Generates a lot of it or not really?

Outsurance is paying out 9K.
Is this a good way of spending that 9K?

I really do want to include some speakers.

Crafty, although I have not heard the NR1402, I think you would do a lot better buying a more powerful AVR. There are some great bargains to be had on the AVSA Classified section. Ask Vaughan (forum member) about the Jamo speakers - he sells them and has extensive knowledge about HT set-ups.

They quote replacement model as T747, and offered that at 9K

another friend also told me to stick with a stronger AVR.
I can do that, but then will not be able to get any speakers. The ones I have now irritates the living crap out of me.
Shrieking high end, dull low end, and no middle. I would rather listen music on my tv speakers then.
Room to fill is 4.5 x 5.5
Not very big.

I've got a NAD myself and it handles my missions without a prob no adjustments. I don't think the T747 is in production anymore. I was told the T748 was the replacement.

I understand your urge to get a new HT system as soon as possible, but try not to rush your purchase. Patience will reward you with a system that you can live with over the long-term.

(There is a Yamaha AVR for R3.5k and an Onkyo AVR for R5.5k on the classifieds at the moment).

Oh yes, and the other thing I should have mentioned, Outsurance only pays the supplier. They are not giving me the cash.
Trust me, I have no issues with second hand. As a matter of fact, I prefer it. You get a lot more bang for your buck.

But they have layd out the rules

go to Dion Wired - they had a NAD plus mission combo that was normally around R15k for around R9990 recently

not sure if this is still on - but it will give you a NAD receiver as well as decent speakers - for that price its about as good as you will get if you can get it at that price

Okay, that puts a different spin on matters. Assuming that you want to spend about R5k on an AVR, consider the following:

Denon AVR1311 (5x100W) for R4900
Onkyo TX-SR308 (5x100W) for R4990
Pioneer VSX-820 (5X130W) for R4599
Sony STR-DH710 (7X110W) for R4999

I also had a listen to that setup for R9999 and those Missions really didn't impress me at all, but it could have been the amp...
Under construction again...

Those were the MV something Missions. Mission did have a slump at one point and I think this was one of them. I've got the MX5's and I think they give others in their range a run for their money.
