AVSA magazine covers
« on: March 11, 2008, 08:51:26 am »
Out of interest's sake...over the last year, which were your favourite covers and why?

The problem we face each and every month is in coming up with a cover that looks interesting/striking, and at times what we (I) feel is a great cover, doesn't seem to go down well with especially those people who buy 'in store'. It's not an easy task, since 99% of the time you have uninspiring pictures to work with: square boxes, rectangular boxes..boxes, boxes, boxes...

What works for you? Does a more 'arty' cover, like the November 2007 work well, or do you in general prefer something like what was featured on the June 2007 cover - straight and to the point?

By the time they have used it as a firelighter, they would have paid for it  ;)

Hehe! Well done, GD. I'll warn our designer that his days might be numbered.  ;D

Personally I'd rather go work at FHM!  ;D  And teach them not to airbrush the woman's skin until she looks like she's made out of plastic.

NOW GO HOME AND LOOK AT OUR COVERS! I WANT FEEDBACK!

I like the June 2007 cover, but instead of the Loewe's i would like to see a TT. and cartridge  ;)
But all said, that is more the style for me.

Andrew, I have to agree with CS and GD, the cartridge idea on top of a spinning LP is very sexy.

Then the monsters of the hifi world are always eye catching. Like the Mark Levinson 33H monoblcks shown many years ago. If you compare this to say the latest cover with the Nuforce; Nothing against the Nuforce but it ain't eye candy.

Agreed. But what I'm trying to get at here is the way in which we portray these products... Do you prefer the straight and simple (boring) box presentation, or does it attract your interest more when you look at the cover and for a moment or two you have no idea what you're looking at? As in the November issue, for example.

Andrew

When Valve Audio has finished his limited edition Black Widows, you can put them on the cover for eye candy.
The Levinson's have always made a nice cover.
I would still like an analogue issue, we talk about it on the forum here, and guys are mocking, but some are going out and they are looking for secondhand turntables.
The bland look on June 2007 is great, with no fiery colours in the background, but some serious looking equipment would make a great spread.
Long live stereo  :D

I hear what you're saying, and agree that a shot like that would be striking -- especially in a world where (and let's be honest here) most people are likely to regard such an image as coming from a bygone age! Would certainly attract attention. Problem is, of course, that cover story gets cover picture. You analogue guys will have to encourage someone to take a cover story out on this topic...  ;)
