Right now I feel so out, I like stuff that no one is mentioning
1. 24 - I am yet to find something the gets close to this

Cannot believe I missed this on my "Best TV ever:" list! Thanks for the reminder.

2. Prison Break - Gets very close
3. The Event, I really liked this series, we were left hanging but can't wait for Season two

Well... you better be prepared to wait for a very, very long time ... Show was cancelled.

4. Legend of the Seeker - Enjoyable, but with a bit of effort, Season 2 much better
5. Stargate Universe - I didn't watch the season that is currently showing because I found out it was showing after 6 episodes, will wait for the DVDs
6. Game of Thrones - The build up takes forever, but if you can brve the first couple of episodes, you are well rewarded.

That really sucks big time.  There was another great show, Flashfoward, only one season with a bit of a hint for season 2. Enjoyed it.

Ooooh... there were so many of those - brilliant, but canned because they were not amassing the viewer numbers in the USA.

I'm surprised no-one's mentioned Breaking Bad

So was I (till I came across your post). It's the finest show to ever grace the magic box imho, even surpassing The Sopranos.

And another surprising omission is Boardwalk Empire.

I have not seen that one, but what I HATE about all recent documentaries is the 'directing technique'. It's all colour-&-movement, and gimmicky CGI animations, very few if any, still shots. Cosmos has Dr Sagan talking to the camera for long stretches, like a lecture. (same with Bronowski). They are story tellers, they don't need artificial background action, and I far prefer it that way.
