Star Wars Blu Ray box set- which one?
« on: November 26, 2011, 08:06:25 am »
Hi guys
I know there was a recent discussion regarding the various surround sound options. It's on my Xmas list but I also need to point my missus in the right direction as to which is the correct version to buy.
Any suggestions? She might order on line but will also look at the usual places (Look n Listen, Musica etc)

Cheers

IIRC the local version does not have the proper HD audio soundtrack. I ended up buying mine from Amazon UK. Very happy.  :)

So if I'm looking local, should I be looking for something that says 'HD sound track' or is it called something else on the box?

I'd suggest you call kalahari.net and talk them through the order.  a colleague ordered through them, got the lossy stuff and they exchanged it.

Hi Daniel

Unless I'm mistaken, the local versions all are without the HD audio soundtrack for English, but if you select the German soundtrack, then HD audio is available, go figure! Some silly mistake in selecting the version for SA distribution, I suppose.

After reading the forum discussion on this, I checked and confirmed this to be the case. Not sure if this was maybe rectified with subsequent shipments. I opted to go the Amazon UK route and the price was right too.

Got mine from Loot.co.za. Has the HD English audio (6.1 DTS-HD Master) and no German audio is available on it.

Hi,

Just be warned that the local copies state on the box that there is a DTS-HD 6.1 english audio track and no German but when you actually start to play the disks you only get a DTS lossy english 6.1 track and the HD German option.

Cheers

I have the US release. Has much better packaging than what was released locally. The discs are in a hardcover book.

No problems with the audio tracks.

Daniel

I have gotten hold of Take2 (Only saw the message today). They have confirmed that the release they are now shipping is the correct one.

...
Hi Ross, the German soundtrack issue has been resolved and we are now shipping the English DTS Master Audio Soundtrack :)

Thanks for the heads up on Takealot. Was really worried about getting the correct version and thought of rather ordering it via Amazon.co.uk (48GBP currently which is a steal), but won't be here in SA before X-mas... For obvious reasons it is out of stock there now ;D , so now I've decided to rather take the plunge at Takealot.

I had my wife order the set yesterday evening. It is being delivered now. Very fast efficient service if you ask me.

Well the one from Takealot is also the wrong version... I also ordered it last evening and received it this afternoon. I have checked the discs and it also only contains the English DTS tracks and then the German DTS-MA... $#%#$ Bloody hell, what a #### up!

Eish.  I called Kalahari last week to ask them if they wouldn't mind checking what version they have and guess what? I am still waiting for that call back. Crap service.

....... I wont use the words I would like to, but I got home and .... they sent the wrong version.

The test I suppose will be how they sort this out.

I've already filled in my return notice.. Will see what Takealot does about it, haven't shopped there since they changed their name. When they were still Take2 they used to respond quite quickly to complaints and returns..

I'm really quite miffed TBH with the distribution here in South Africa, I'm sure most folks don't even realise they get shafted with the box set here in South Africa.. Unfortunately with Star Wars the soundtrack does make a huge difference to the overall experience... :( Looks like its just me and Amazon now. Ordered the complete Harry Potter blu-ray set and Lord of the Rings extended editions for less than R800 excl taxes. Together those would cost you R1500 here in South Africa... I'm tired of being ripped off and provided with sub-par products...
