Suggestions on great unplugged albums
« on: November 16, 2011, 02:01:56 pm »
Hey guys, I am getting my Onkyo/MA combo next week and of late have quite enjoyed listening to some unplugged tunes on the radio, but I would like to know if any of you guys could suggest any great unplugged albums to me.

The genres don't really matter too much but if you need to know I listen to Old School Rock/Metal and a some alternative from time to time. I also enjoy solo artists like Tori Amos/Bjork/Adele etc.

If you like Nirvana, than you must have the "Alice in Chains" unplugged. Raw & gutsy & awesome.

There's also a sort-off semi-acoustic, very "ambiental"  Pearl Jam (audio only, double CD), not from the MTV Unplugged branded series though, but still a great and very accurate recording of a great live event - "Benaroya Hall (Oct.22 2003)" (some of the songs are the best version IMO - "Black" is ... huh... chills. Audience sings the whole outro - PERFECTLY - while McCready's Strat weeps)

and then of course Pearl Jam "Live at the Garden - [2003]" DVD.

Creed. Their "200?" Reunion DVD is TOP NOTCH. Not acoustic at all, but brilliantly recorded, audio and video.

huh... many more...

The unplugged CD of The Cure's "Best Of" album is really cool. I also really like the very different sound of Fleetwood Mac's "Big Love" acoustic version, but that is also on a "Best of" album, but if they have an unplugged album, I think I would get it.

I got a mini DVD with my Fiona Apple "Extraordinary Machine" where she does some unplugged songs and they are AMAZING! I'd love to get a whole album full of unplugged stuff by her. That has to be one of the best ever freebies ever released with a CD.

10,000 Maniacs MTV Unplugged
Sinhead O Connor - Theology
KISS - MTV Unplugged (probably my favourite KISS album)
Pretenders - The Isle of View
Lindsey Buckingham - Live at the Bass Performance Hall

many others I'll add tonight as I remember them.

Natalie Merchant - VH1 Storytellers (it's a DVD but the soundtrack is LPCM stereo and easily ripped to WAV for conversion to CD or playback via a network music player.

Cyndi Lauper - The Body Acoustic
Sheryl Crow - The Trinity Church Sessions (hard to find)

more to follow...

Please do not mention Tori Amos and that Adele thing in the same breath.

Hehehe, I actually went and had a listen to Adele19 + Adele21 last night but I prefer the Adele19's accoustic sessions (like 4 songs) to the rest. Don't think I will go out and buy it though...

Not a MTV effort, but REM's masterpiece (IMO) album "Automatic for the People" is a fantastic, must-have, not-plugged album.
I used to have SUPER POWERS.
But my therapist took them away. :vsad:

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Joe Satriani Unplugged - I've seen the video, but not sure if it is available on CD.

+1 for Nirvana Unplugged.

Some music I also enjoy, although perhaps not strictly accoustic, are Jack Johnson's albums.
