Don't think I'll ever outgrow animated movies...
« on: November 16, 2011, 12:26:07 pm »
I have started collecting animated movies for my 5 year old son and from time to time I have found myself watching these blurays all on my own when bored.

All I can say is that I don't think I will ever outgrow animated movies. Think there is a little kid in all of us that truly appreciates a good animated movie from time to time...LOL

+ Almost always excellent soundtracks. More often than not they also contain tons of very clever adult humour, which the kids don't get, but makes me ROFL. ;D

I agree wholeheartedly with you on that one.

And yeah, I believe that the animated movies in majority have better picture quality and soundtracks as opposed to your regular movies...

Fully agree. I've never gone to a movie theatre to watch animation but started collecting after the birth of my son. He has not a clue what they are at this moment but I've had so much fun watching them. Something I did not expect at all.

My top animated movies of all time:

* Emperor's New Groove - ruler of Inca kingdom gets turned into a llama by (evil) vizier, saved by peasant chief who's village he was going to raze to build a summer palace (was going to be a big Disney blah blah, but was almost canned, production team finished it anyway, it's awesome - zany, funny in a way Lion King, etc is bombastic and overstuffed)

* Surf's Up. Penguins in a surfing faux-documentary. Joe Chicken is the best

* Triplets de Belville - surreal French "watercolours" style movie about a secret mafia kidnapping pro-cyclists for fairground-style horserace game

* Up. Just brilliant.

* Heavy Metal 2000. Big-boobed Julie must keep madman Tyler from immortality... lame, but awesome. Not for kids tho'. After drinking immortality potion extracted from the bodies of a whole planet's murdered population: "I like the hint of lemon..."

Animations are awesome. The old Disney ones are just too sentimental and sweet for me.

My faves:

  • Rango
  • Up
  • Spririted Away (Japanese animation with surreal vibe)
  • Incredibles
  • Kung Fu Panda (Hans Zimmer is a GENIUS. The soundtrack is amazing)

Is that a re-make of the original? I only remember watching one called "Heavy Metal"

RE: Heavy Metal 2000 -- I think it's a completely different movie from the 1981 flick (judging by IMDB).

Haven't seen Rango yet, although I really want to. Must get down to DVD shop.

It's not a remake, but it is based on the same French comic book. Not a patch on the original movie though, or it's soundtrack.

* Triplets de Belville - it has a very cool track in it, don't know what it is called. The one made with news paper and a vacuum cleaner.
(now I have to look for it on you tube.)

What happens at our house is we put in a "kids movie" for kids when they ask to watch something They go do something else and in the end the grown ups en up watching it.
