New models are cheap nowadays compared to when I bought mine.

Not sure if you plan to run custom firmaware and I'm not sure how easy the new ones are to mod

AFAIK, the harware spec is the same across all models, just cosmetic differences.

They're on special all over the Walmart stores with 1 or 2 free games included

OK, so I guess you're saying it's safe to buy one of those, then.

You've got to love someone starting the exact thread you wanted to.
I'm thinking of one for my son for Christmas and birthday combined, he's very keen on the idea. The games are getting very cheap too, especially second hand.

What is the battery life like?

How much of a mission is it to rip some of his favourite dvd's to mp4 so he can watch them on the PSP? (Not the ripping, but putting them on the PSP)

No more difficult than putting them on a flash drive.

Battery life is not too bad, I can't remember exactly but doesn't annoy you with persistant recharges

Same here! Except, this one's for his birthday in December. Then there's Xmas  :P....

Cool. His birthday is 4 days away from Christmas day, so I always give him the option of combining them, otherwise that would be waay too big a gift on my sort of budget unfortunately.  :'(

Hey guys, I happened to browse through my local paper and stumbled accross the latest greatest PSP that is on sale NOW at Hifi Corp for R1199 I think. Looks to have a bigger screen and hopefully you can buy games for it as with the previous release PSP Go you were only able to download games for it

Just a head-up from my side. Use it, don't use it...LOL
Under construction again...

There is a PSP Vita coming out soon. Its an upgrade of the current PSP with additional connection capability to a PS3 and some other goodies. It believe that it can be used as a controller for certain PS3 games with the PSP screen as an additional display.

If you are just looking for a normal PSP model, these should get a price drop once the newer model is out.

I am not sure of the exact release date though.

They're a little "soft" and must be handled with more care than a DS for example....one drop and its easily broken.Load times can be painful and i must just say that depending on age....my kids prefer the ds by a fair margin. You wouldn't think so but thats how it is round here! Those discs do get damaged and the pathetic plastic housings that "secure"the disc are woeful....not for really young kids in my opinion!Got games for you though! ;)
