One has to adore the bottle in the top right corner of the last picture.
The first watt is the most important, but it does not mean I cannot have 99 other great watts.

Lol, yeah...

Priorities, something for dad and something for the boys. I bet their bottle means more to them than the audio does to me ;)

That bottle will become a lot more important to you if your son doesn't get it quick enough :D

Ok, I need a little advice.

1. How on earth do I cut a 20cm hole and be very accurate? Is it just a time consuming thing with a jigsaw?
2. I need a bonding agent like a thick glue I can use to mould with. Similar to a body putty butt with a closer to fiber glass finish than can be sanded and shaped.

I'm going to be disecting my speaker holes in the doors. I'll cut out the stock ones that are made of plastic and replace with 16mm MDF so they're sturdier. I can either screew the rings in place or I can use the bonding agent mentioned above. Ambitious I know but it will be fun and will improve the speaker stability dramatically.

What are you cutting into? MDF? Then your best bet is to use a router with a circle jig. Many routers these days do come with a jig of sorts to cut big circles with. It's a little flimsy but it gives you the cleanest cuts.

Not sure if you have a company called AMT composites in CT, but the one here has a fibre based filler that's ideal for what you want to do. Chris on the forum here used it on his sub, I just can't find the tread now.

Thanks Gert and yes, it is MDF. Not sure if I'm keen to go out and buhy a router so maybe a jigsaw and a bit of sanding will have to do.

Thanks for the info re the composites. Sounds like exactly what I need.

The problem with a jigsaw is that the blade flexes on thick MDF. So, you might have a real steady hand and follow the circle perfectly, but because of the flexing of the blade the circle on the other side of the MDF will not follow the same shape. But, if this is merely for a sub cutout then I agree - a jigsaw will suffice if you don't have a router.

The cutouts are actually to brace the mid bass drivers in the doors. I'm removing the standard plastic mounting with a dremel and epoxying the MDF in its place for a more solid mounting. I also want to slightly angle the drivers upwards so they don't play directly at my ankles.

They're actually the R6A http://dls.se/en/car/prod.html?produkt=en_60

One model up and what I originally wanted which cannot be bad. Same tweeter but a deeper set mid bass driver. The ones I originally wanted were shallow drivers as I was worried about the depth of the door panels. Checked these and they fine so will suit much better.

Ah, I see. You not going to get a nice cut with a jigsaw then and this will result in a LOT of filling afterwards.

Hmmmm, maybe I should consider something else then.

The mount will be almost completely recessed into the door panel though with a 5 to 7mm lift at the bottom left corner. I'll give it a bash and see what happens. Pictures shall be posted for comment and advice

You dont need to be 100% perfect in your circle cutting. There will obviously be a gasket between the driver and mdf which will solve any small issues you have with the cutout. Take your time with the jigsaw and do some practice cuts first - it will work.  Remember, you are not building a rocket, just a MDF bracket.
