And Oh what a Sweet Spot that is, reminds me of my lost youth only its better far more subtle and food for the soul.
If the midrange ain't right all the bass and silky highs don't mean squat.

Heehheee - I warned you. Remember, I had Maggies (Francois, reading this?) before the Acoustats. Once I got used to the sound of Acoustats and learned to live with the 10x10cm sweet spot (1 week), and after that compared them to Maggies, Maggies got folded away...

Hey Maybe just Maybe you will be more Impressed with The New Maggie 1.7's. They are not just Ribbon but more Planar type Maggies. They have a real Electrostatic sound about them.

I had the normal True Ribbon Maggies which are very good , but the 1.7's is something else.

You are welcome to come and have a listen!! I am in Pretoria and will also be going to the DIY Show, will look forward to see everyone!

Oh, no doubt that ribbons have improved greatly in the last 30 years. Maggies that I had and the ones (incl. Apogee) I had the opportunity to listen to in the last century were all of the original early 80's Magnepan design. Smaller improvements here and there didn't make that much of a difference at that time.

Thing is, once I got into ESLs, that was it for me. I found my nirvana. And since the essence of ESL design hasn't changed in the last ... 50-60 yrs? - they remain my "safehouse".
I know that even a 30 year old set is not going to be far off or much different from the very latest. I draw the line at hybrids though. For me it's full range, or bust.

Thank you for the invite, very kind of you. We must make a plan.
