I have imported new parts for my Renaults from Radbourne Racing, Wimbledon UK many times - anything from brake hoses to a sunroof complete.

My bro' in Durbanville has twice imported major parts for his Landcruiser from Germany - in one case a complete chassis after the rolled the thing.

All bits ordered, paid for and cleared by myself through customs.

I wonder if the changed the rules in recent times?

Apparently the rules changed around 2008/9?

I've imported many smaller things, pads, discs, softtop, exhaust, etc. without issue.

But - Rodney's guy ends up cheaper than doing it myself anyway,

Diff ordered from Motown - landed price is R9975 from Motown.

Here's hoping in a couple of weeks for another R4000-5000 the vehicle will be up and running and ready to be sold.

More than R53,000 :o

I'm tossing between a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Ultimate and Toyota Hilux Dbl cab....I need to replace my current Double Cab... but if I get rid of the Honda, I won't have a play car... the Wrangler sort of covers both with one car.

Get a Suzuki Jimny, you can have a superbike, a mudplugger and roof in one go... and the parts are not bad

1300 engine
short wheelbase
loads of power in low-range... ;D
OK! I've had it! I don't give anymore Kharma. Kharma should work in mysterious ways...

My parents used to have a Suzuki SJ in the early 80's -  they sold it for more than they paid 10 years later... gotta get SO approval though... but now that I think of it... maybe I can get one as a run around.

Ja... Somebody once asked me about my Jimny - how is it...

A:
It can take you absolutely anywhere, but not fast, comfortably or with lots of luggage...

Thought I'd update with the ending.

Imported the diff through Rodney's guy - I sourced the diff myself though, and Ralph took over the arrangements getting it here, all-in-all I was charged R10,000 delivered.

Took a few weeks, diff arrived, and was stuffed (ordered from what I believe was a reliable S2000 part dealer, www.hardtopguy.com) - the seller pulled a fast one and the final drive was history. Paypal wouldn't register a claim of this type, and my only option for a refund was to send it back at a cost probably greater than the initial layout. (no fault of Ralph, they went out of their way to assist).

I was fortune that this diff wasn't as damaged as mine, and could order parts to repair it (Another R10,000) - ordered the parts, the diff was built up last week and returned to me - I have now sold the vehicle at a stunning R70,000 after all the expenses (sold for R90,000). I sold it around R40,000 less than what I could of, as the diff needs 1,000 mile break-in, and I honestly don't have the time or patience.. so who ever took it, took it knowing the risks.. I was blatantly honest with the various buyers, scaring a few away - but I didn't want any come backs.

The final buyer actually flew down on Saturday, came round yesterday, took the vehicle for a test drive, was happy and handed me a cheque for the agreed amount, he then took the car out for the afternoon, can back and asked me to drop his rental off at the airport - he then left for Johannesburg by car last night. Phoned again this morning to tell me he's loving it - and thank you for not pulling a fast one.

What actually went in your diff? Did it physically break or is it perhaps clutches etc.. Not locally repairable at all...
PS just took my wifes 1,5 vtec CVT Jazz in for a service , pads on a 40 000km 3 yr old car were R1300!!! Ouch...
Worse than that , they phoned me to tell me that the engine/gearbox mounting is broken and it will cost R4500 to replace...
They INSISTED , albeit I called em 4x , they the car come in in November - it does little mileage and the last service was Nov 2010 - bI'm not keen on a year between service intervals
What they didnt tell me was the 3 yr 60 000 km warrantee was up on 29 Oct. I protested vigorously ... 12 days outa warrantee and 40 000km driven by a woman that travels at an average of 35km/h...its a CVT too , she NEVER takes it out of auto - so not like there are gear slamming shifts..evidently according to intyernet , its not an uncommon problem and is a factory fault.
Finally they did it under warrantee.. Total car has cost over 3 yrs is R1300 which is not too bad.
Amazing - exactly EXACTLY the same mechanical problems as Angela's the last time it went in.
Caution, whatever you read above, may, wonder of wonders, contain some level of jocularity.

hellopeter.com

The guys international - doesn't give a damn - started a thread or two on various Honda forums he's a member of in the hopes he'd actually respond - nothing.

The local guys (US) jumped to his defence, and I made contact with a few international buyers who'd have similiar issues, my guess is he knew his local buyers could return items with relatively minimal expenses, but international buyers would usually pay the item price in return shipping, so he gets away with it.

If you just google the companies name it'll pick up the hellopeter complaint as well.
