Anybody else find that they also won't buy these even if they could afford them because the styling is too unusual? (Thought long and hard so as not to be disparaging!)

gotta agree, lets be honest if we knew nothing about audio and saw these without hearing them what would we think, i know id think cheap and funny looking. that said these things produce great audio, now if they got wrapped in a nice wooden veneer of cherry or rosewood combined with the painted stands or preferably brushed metal finish on the stands, then i think they would look as good as they sound, although i guess appearance is highly subjective.

i also dont really like the looks - i would probably love their sound but since looks are extremely subjective - i have to agree that they dont really suit my taste ....... but that does not make them into a bad speaker by any means - just means that they are something that you either instantly love or you dont

the website is very improved as from the previous version and will probably go a long way to spreading the word about their product

I have visited their factory recently and must say these speakers look much better in the "flesh" than in pics. ;)

I didnt get a chance to listen to any of the speakers there as their demo room was being rebuilt at the time but I did listen to a pair of the V 1.5s at Mod n Sound in Umhlanga with a Ayre amplifier and CD player and I really liked them.

It's a funny thing, how people listen with their eyes...

The Vivid Audio shape is very much a case of putting function before form - the shape of the cabinet goes hand in hand with the design of the drivers and the crossovers. Peaks, troughs and spikes are not generated by reflections or diffractions from flat panels or hard edges and so there is no need for complex crossovers to correct for all this. There is no way around the curves, boxes are fundamentally compromised.

I know that the ingrained thought process of the average audiophile when it comes to speakers is "square, wooden box" but surely it's time to move beyond this and start listening with our ears?

Yes speakers are like cars and woman.... the very first is the looks... I agree

BUT

Having heard them and had them with me, I can live with them.... and in real life the do tend to convince you to put a hand out and stroke them... not so lovingly like a B&W or Big wooden speaker, but still  ;D

Brings me to the B&W 8xx speakers.... immediately everyone goes wow, touches them....

then the Sony/LG/SAMSUNG sets at local Dion's Wired/ HiFi Corp.... Woofers/Tweeters all over the show, protruding like warts on a vlakvark's arse.... and 90% goes WOW that must sound good!! The sad thing is when they do thump out bass inforced k@k 90% STILL goes wow

Perceptions :-)

I once had people around for braai, played the big Tannoys, all well and nice. Later I hear this ok to his friend, my JVC speakers sounds just as good, why would one spend money on such a speaker..... I laughed my arse off at the look on my friends face (also loves hifi), and promptly opened another bottle of wine....

Give me the sound please! I must admit I have seen uttely ugly speakers before, there IS a limit!
I was born analog, not digit by digit....

I think the Giyas are works of art and with them WAF is at stratospheric levels. Pity I'm unlikely to win the lotto in this lifetime.

I had a listen to Happy Camper's Vivid Audio's not too long ago and they sound absolutely amazing. They have everything one looks for in a high-end product such as this and more...

Sure the looks could put many off in this regard, but as I have said before, to each his own. Every person has different taste & various aspects they look for in a speaker. Vivid Audio have thought outside the box unlike many competitors, but this has in no way compromised the sound quality of their speakers.

Just my 2c

PS I am no audiophile but I do have a highly tuned musical ear...if you know what I mean...LOL

I know their production costs might be high, and I know overseas the price must be high enough....

I would GLADLY trade a B&W802N for K1's... but alas that will never happen without paying in another R50k?

I DONT want to hear the Giya's, its just going to make my life difficult  ;D ;D ;D

The k1s are superb speakers only lacking in the lowest octave but everything else is so good that you can live with them for life. Not sure what you would get for a pair of 802N but if you deal with Phillip directly you should get a good price ( relatively speaking)

The G1s do step it up a notch or two. Audio nirvana. One unexpected benefit of the G1s is the ability to get the best out of a recording. Non audiophile recordings sound better than they have any right to. As most music fits into this slot this is a great plus. A lot of high end sounds good in audiophile but inferior recordings end up unlistenable.

Yet another review stating that the Giyas are the best speakers ever.
