AVSA Website Issues (Log problems here)
« on: October 05, 2011, 07:17:58 pm »
As most here will know, the AVSA website saga has been a long and frustrating one, and it seems that there are still ongoing issues. Please use this thread to notify us of any issues/problems you may be experiencing, as well as any suggestions on how we can improve it for you.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hire a web admin like the one in your avatar and you would be set :)

The link to Phenomenon Audio is dead - 404

BTW - Have you thought of doing a short piece on the "DIY" Get together that is taking place up your side sometime soon? One of your writers (non writers ;D) will be there with his Thalia and new amplifier. There are also going to be lots of other interesting projects I think. Would be interesting to document the South African community.
Caution, whatever you read above, may, wonder of wonders, contain some level of jocularity.

Such as:-

Steve Jobs didn't see his life flash before his eyes. Apple products don't support Flash.

Newest Apple product: iDied

They took our Jobs!

Update: All buttons seem to be functional. Host has however still not enabled access for Ruzena to place submitted adverts on the website.

This is very, very poor service that you are getting!  ???

Almost too scared to tempt fate, but it seems like we are getting there - first batch of 'new' classifieds are up.

This whole ordeal has been terrible for your search engine rankings... Not only have you lost all of your existing listings in the index (no redirects were made to the 'new' site, so 404s), but your URLs are no longer search engine friendly... What used to be classifieds/available has become smalls.php?type=1 - no keywords, query strings... bad stuff.

You should kill your host/web designer/manager repeatedly.

This used to be the url style, until fairly recently (few months ago, so it seems that an old version of the software is in use now). A friend, who is sight impaired, complained that he can't get into Classifieds. I suggest changing it back to avsa.co.za/classifieds/available style. I think this is what most complainants' browsers is remembering.

Well, that is an another issue... Bookmarks and very occasionally DNS request caching - but you are right, it seems as though an old version of the website has been reloaded. They could have at least put code 301 redirects in place so that URLs in SE indexes and bookmarks would remain functional.

Eish Andrew, I'm sorry to say it - but they really screwed you on this one.
