Pioneer 200 TT
« on: September 19, 2011, 12:24:42 pm »
Hi Forum

Dont really know where to post this...

I picked up the TT last night and the rca wires at the back was cut off where it comes out.

What do I use to replace this?
Can I buy a ready made cable?

Totally new to Vinyl - thanks

You're gonna have to unscrew the bottom and solder in new ones - IIRC they're soldered directly to a tag strip. Pretty much any off-the-shelf RCA cable will do the trick.

The RCA wires will probably solder onto the PCB in the TT, so buy a standard pair of Red/White RCA's, snip the one end off, open up the TT and proceed to solder the open ended RCA wires to the PCB. Maybe also make sure that you solder Left to Left and Right to Right if possible.

Any conductive cable - it simply earths the TT's chassis to the Amp's chassis.

You will probably find some indication on the PCB/tags of where this must go.

Time to report back:

Cleaned the Pioneer , soldered the wires....

Cleaned the LP ( clean green method)..

Sounds terrible - scrathing noise coming from my speakers.. little bits of music ..

I am on the original cart ?? , that it came with 20 years ago.

Is it worth investing in a new one for this TT or should I just stick to CD's?

Total noob on this , any suggestions would be considered.

Thanks

AC

Definately worth a new cartridge.
Would not spend a lot of money on the cartridge though as that turntable will probably not do it much justice, unless you plan on upgrading to another tt that is once the jug bites good and proper. ;)

Vinyl is worth the love you apply to the tt. CD is nice but it is not vinyl  ;D

Thanks for the response - am I correct in blaming the cart ?

What would you suggest as a replacement , and where do I get one ?

Are your records clean? If not the stylus picks up rubbish quickly and sounds worse and worse.
LF: Cheap but decent interconnects so I can try to hear the difference, or not.

I hope so , cleaned it with clean green ( saw a post on it somewhere)

Is there a way to clean the stylus ?

Thanks

I have a feeling your stylus is either missing or chipped. If you have a magnifying glass, have a look at it under good light, with a piece of white paper held behind it. The diamond should be sharp & smooth.

Did you make sure that all wires from the cart to the RCA connections are intact?

Otherwise a new cart. I'm sure there are a few floating around on this forum somewhere.

Hi Jaco

Yes I checked all the wires - they were all there.

I will clean the record again tonight , check the stylus and then take it from there.

The TT is just a itch to be scratched - found some old Springbok rugby  LP's and some Elvis specials lying in the basement.

Might just convert me .....
