Star Wars blu-ray
« on: September 15, 2011, 11:54:30 am »
Hey guy's

Just a heads up, I got my copy of Star Wars the complete saga on blu-ray yesterday and it only come's with a lossy DTS 6.1 English audio soundtrack.

On further investigation there is a German DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack which doesn't help unless you understand German, so it looks like we may be getting a German sourced version of the Star Wars blu-ray here in SA.

I got mine from take2.co.za and will be asking for a refund as it states on the back of the box that you should get an English DTS-HD 6.1 audio track which is half the reason you buy Blu-rays.

I would be interested if any of you other guy's have found the same thing.

Cheers

Was just listening to a podcast about all the extra CG/audio crap Lucas added to the Blu-ray cuts - sounds a bit ridiculous!

Maybe you should add a comment on the product page on take2 just to make other buyers aware of the issue.

The question is --- why?

IE Why only a DTS track?

Why? because it looks like we are getting the German edition of the blu-ray which only has a German lossless 5.1 DTS-HD track. The English track is standard lossy DTS. Very daft even though it states on the back of the box it has a english DTS-HD 6.1 track

I have confirmed this by various websites  :o that the German version only has a standard DTS track in English.

I am going to fight with Take2 to either get a refund or swop for a UK version of the movies.

There was a promo until the end of September or October, but I'm not sure if you still have to pay duties/VAT anyway. I'm guessing that you do.

The free shipping offer ends at end of Sept 2011 and applies to all orders over 25 pounds. You will have to pay the VAT on the value of the order and a small clearance fee of R30 when you collect your package from the Post Office.

I ordered around 40 Blu Rays in the past few months from Amazon UK using this offer.

as far as i am aware, take2 imports stock themselves from their cheapest supplier markets, and therefore "we" as in the SA market through the local distributors probably wont be getting the German evrsion as you do.

If I rememebr correctly the price of star wars was a lot cheaper on amazon.co.uk anyway

Yes, you will have to pay VAT at the PO here. I think they calculate it at 14% * (Value of Goods + 10%). Don't forget that when you complete the transaction on amazon.co.uk, they seem to deduct whatever the sales tax was in Britain. The free delivery promo seems to always be extended. Was originally sometime in Aug, then 15 Sept, now end Sept apparently?
